Perfect fit for Ruger Super Blackhawk .454 Casull (6.5-inch barrel, w/ pinned front sight); easy DIY install!
The "North Pass Hi-Viz RBLW01 Ruger Litewave Front Sight for Super Blackhawk" is a great upgrade and perfect fit for my Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley revolver chambered in .454 Casull (6.5" barrel). Installation was easy, the sight's height and attachment profile are identical to the original OEM sight blade, and the green fiber optic bead makes aiming considerably easier, especially while aiming at darker targets and/or shooting in less-than-bright light. In my opinion, this kind of modification is well within the ability of any average "handy" do-it-yourselfer and does not need to be performed by a professional gunsmith. Assuming you have the right sight for your revolver (and the sight is pinned in, as it is on the Super Blackhawk .454 casull), you only need the following tools:- small square of 600 or 800 grit sandpaper- hammer- small gauge nail or appropriately sized punch (1/16" diameter or less)- calipers (optional, but helpful)- drill (with 1/16" drill bit)First, I braced my revolver on a block of wood (to prevent marring my dining room table) and gently tapped out the front sight pin using a hammer and a small gauge nail (I first filed the point off of the nail so it would have a flat tip like a punch). The OEM sight is fit very snugly, so I gently tapped at the front and back edges of the sight to knock it loose and work it out. Once out, I measured it with a high quality digital calipers and found that it was exactly .001" thinner than the replacement Hi-Viz sight, but otherwise in identical in ever way. The extra thickness of the Hi-Viz sight felt extremely tight when I tested the fit, so I used the 600 grit sandpaper to shave off the bluing on one side of the sight, making sure to use light, even pressure against the sandpaper atop a perfectly flat surface (my dining table). After a series of brief sanding efforts (go slow, a little at a time), I had shaved it down the requisite .001" to match the OEM sight. Then, I pressed it into place as far as I could by hand, using a small wooden block to tap the sight in the rest of the way due to how snugly it fits. Once seated, the sight sat perfectly flat with absolutely no slop or movement. After ensuring it was secure, I used a 1/16" diameter drill bit to drill partway through one side of the sight, then switched to the other side to finish the hole. During the drilling, I took care to use light pressure on the drill and proceed slowly, as well as to keep the drill bit aligned as perfectly as possible by eye. Once through, I drove the original pin back into the hole using the same hammer and small gauge nail. Lastly, I used a small brush and Birchwood Casey "Super Blue" formula to re-blue the sanded side of the sight, turning it a nice flat black color again. Voila! A brand new, high visibility front sight.I can't think of any negatives for this sight, except perhaps that the slightly elongated profile (to accommodate the long fiber optic bead) is a little more modern and less "Western" in appearance, which may bother nit-picky folks. It's well made (metal and very durable feeling), highly visible, easy to install on this particular gun, and even includes an additional white and red fiber optic pipe in case you want to swap out the color of the bead. (I left it green, as that's definitely the brightest and easiest of the three options for my eye to pick up.)If you have a Super Blackhawk .454, the basic tools I mentioned above, and you're looking for a way to enhance the sight picture for easier aiming, I highly recommend this sight. At $25 it's a great upgrade.

Nice sight for Ruger Blackhawk
I wanted a front sight on my Ruger Blackhawk convertible that was easier to see. The Hiviz front sight was just what I was looking for. Installation was straightforward, just knocked out the roll pin and fit the base of the new sight which required a little filling to fit. Then drilled a hole in the new sight and reinstalled the roll pin.

Handgun sight
The sight worked pretty good after I drilled a hole through it! It didn't have a hole in it for the pin that holds it in.

I can see clearly now... : )
Installed and it looks and works great. In my opinion the fit was 99.97%. Acceptable/d4mn near perfect. I went over it ( the bottom ) with p150 sandpaper approximately 5 swipes and the fit was 100%. I drilled the pin hole using 1/16 inch drill bit, cleaned it, went over sanded part with a blue touch up pen to inhibit rust ,sprayed the sight slot with WD40 and pinned it in place. Easy peezy ... Love it.

Great sight but does require appropriate tools and drilling
I bought this sight for my Super Blackhawk because the stock ramp sight made it difficult and slow to get a good sight picture with my old eyes. Getting the old sight off should be no problem if you have a 1/16 inch punch to drive out the roll pin. I used a punch designed for roll pins. A few gentle taps with a small brass hammer worked the sight loose after removing the pin. The Hi-Viz sight was .001 inch narrower than the ramp sight, so I did not have to do any grinding as some reviewers have mentioned. After inserting the Hi-Viz sight, I lightly tapped it to make sure it was flush with the mount. Then I used a padded clamp to make sure it didn’t shift during drilling. Since I don’t have a drill press, I free-handed the drilling, switching from side to side rather than trying to drill straight through from one side. This worked like a charm. I then tapped the pin back in. This resulted in a good, tight, solid fit. At the range, I fiddled a bit with the elevation, but found the windage to be spot on. I used a standard big box store drill bit and recommend you have more than one since they break easily. The Hi-Viz sight improved the sight picture considerably, and should represent an improvement whether your eyes are good or bad. The only questions you have to answer are do you have the appropriate tools and do you feel confident about doing the drilling yourself. The packaging recommends the services of a qualified gunsmith.

Great Improvement for Front Sight Acquisition
I have a New Model Super Blackhawk .44Mag 5.5 which is a fine weapon, but the plain black blade front sight made it very difficult for me to acquire a sight picture quickly. Since I intend to carry it in bear country, I needed to rectify that problem. I decided to try this Hi-Viz front sight because I previously purchased one of their shotgun sights and was very pleased with it. I chose to have it professionally installed by a gunsmith ($35) as I don't have the clamps and carbide bit which is optimal for the process. I am very pleased with the result. I can now acquire the front sight immediately, and the color tubes are very easy to change out. The sight sits at the same height as the original, so there is no problem placing it into my Galco SAO holster. Overall I think it is a practical and useful addition.

Nice upgrade. Tight fit.
Very tight fit for my stainless Blackhawk; I could not get it all the way in completely flush without fear of crushing the light tube (using a padded vise), but I blame this on the extremely shoddy finish quality of this particular gun, not the sight. I actually spent far more time trying to remove the original sight pin it was hammered in so brutally (whereas the rear sight pin just falls out).As for the sight itself, it's not as bright as I'd hoped, but MUCH better than the stock black ramp, and looks good on the stainless gun. Nice affordable upgrade.
