Q: How wide - like are they 1/2 or 1 inch rods?

They measure 3/4" X 3/8" and are best suited for a 1 1/2" pocket. Thanks for asking.

Q: If I use this for curtains on my glass from doors, how far does this sit off of the window?

The rods are sitting very close to the window probably 3/4 inch away. So when the curtain is actually on the rod it looks somewhat flush to the glass. So if that's the look you're going for then it will work well. However, if you want a gap in between the curtain and door or glass from a side angle, this is not the product you will want.

Q: I received 2 clear pieces, 2 sash rods, and 4 metal mounting brackets: what is the purpose of the clear pieces? They are too loose to retain slippage.

The small, rectangular clear pieces are meant to slide over the overlapping ends of the two pieces of rod to prevent curtain fabric from catching on them.

Q: Can these be used on metal doors or are magnetic ones better for that?

I have used them on numerous metal doors. No problems.
