Q: How do you attach the "side" flowers to the cake?

It doesn’t come with anything to actually attach the flowers to the cake. The flower bundles have a little felt pad on the bottom that’s it. I didn’t use them for the sides because of this and I didn’t have anything on hand to rig it to hold. This set is best for simple placement around the base or on top of the cake in my opinion

The order came with both sets of flowers as seen in the photo. They’re very pretty and perfect for a small cake.

Q: How do you prepare them before placing them on the cake?

Wash them. Butter cream and put them on the cake.
