SoulMusic Records is proud to reissue the self-titled, one and only album recorded by the supremely gifted singer-songwriter (1961-1996), Curtis Hairston. This long-overdue reissue of Curtis’s 1986 Atlantic LP contains both the original and extended mixes of his singles (and fan favorites) ‘Chillin’ Out’, ‘(You’re My) Shining Star’, ‘Let’s Make Love Tonight’, ‘The Morning After’ and ‘Take Charge’.The Winston-Salem, North Carolina native, who studied at Juilliard, first rose to prominence in the mid-'80s, achieving chart success in the UK including the Top 20 hit, ‘I Want Your Lovin' (Just A Little Bit)’ and scoring a No. 1 UK dance hit with the B.B. & Q. Band via ‘Dreamer’.In 1986, Curtis (who passed away in 1996 at the age of 34 from kidney failure) signed with Atlantic. CURTIS HAIRSTON spawned the UK hit, ‘Chillin' Out’ and US R&B charted single, ‘(You're My) Shining Star,’ and included a number of songs co-written by the legendary Nona Hendryx (of Labelle fame). This expanded edition, remastered by Donald Cleveland, includes liner notes by renowned U.S. journalist Justin Kantor, with quotes from Hendryx as well as archival interviews with Curtis.

At least I could find here and I stay very happy. I own the orignel Vinyl in my collection ...
I searched very long for this record for to get as an Compact Disc. At least I could find here and I stay very happy. I own the orignel Vinyl in my collection and now I have a very good quality copy for to listen in my car for example. One of my favourite titles from this album is "All we have is love". The songs are remember the time when all simes to be more easy and the mix of dance songs and ballads are really great until now. From my side I can say ... Buy it.

'An 80's Soul/Disco/Funk Lovers Dream'
Curtis Hairston should have been a legend but somehow instead he ended up as a cult star amongst the soul/funk set. This, his debut (and sadly, only) album came out a year after Curtis hit the U.K. top twenty with 'I Want Your Lovin' and was instantly revered by soul heads. Rather more like a collection of 12" singles than an album, it features eight songs all of which are strong and brilliantly sung. The snag with the set was however that while songs like 'Chillin' Out' (a minor U.K. hit), 'Let's Make Love Tonight', Take Charge' and 'The Morning After' were all great uptempo soul/funk cuts none of them were really crossover hit material being more for the aficionado's of that specialist genre than for the pop charts. The result of this being that neither 'Chillin' Out, nor 'The Morning After' made much headway as singles in the U.K. and thus this fine album was destined to forever remain a classic within a genre rather than a recognized classic. This said, while Curtis is in fine voice throughout none of the songs here are earth shatteringly original in the lyrical department and that the subject matter throughout the album is pretty much girls, love, romance and dancing it was always going to appeal more to the 'white sock brigade' than to the masses... In 2014 though and with so much emphasis on retro and the 80's, there must be plenty of people who missed this at the time out there who would love this! If you are remotely into 80's danceable soul with a club edge to it then you should buy this immediately. As far as slower material goes the only out and out ballad here is 'All We Have Is Love' but its a corker and shows off Hairston's sublime voice to great effect. '(You're My) Shining Star' is about half way house in tempo while the other two cuts 'Hold On (For Me)' and 'Let Me Change Your Mind' are less 'single sounding' uptempo album cuts but add to what is a stunning set.Sadly, Curtis died aged just 34 in 1996. What happened to him after about 1987 I have no idea but whoever it was who decided to drop him from the artist register was a VERY short sighted thinker indeed...
