Excelent Quality
Compared to the herring you get in the grocery store, these jars are fully packed with fish and very little onions or wine sauce. The jars in the store may have the fish loosely swimming in the sauce and almost as much onion as fish.So while it might be a little pricey to get this through Amazon, I got twice the servings as the store brand.Uff-Da!

Very Tasty; a Classic Recipe
I love the flavor! It's classic pickled herring in wine. Next time, I'll be buying the 32oz party pail. Please note that this item is shipped in a cold-pack and MUST be refrigerated upon receipt. However, this does not seem to affect the quality or flavor.

Arrived in good condition, well chilled
Very good herring. Nice flavor and texture. Arrived still chilled in chill packs. Use by date several months away.

TOO SWEET
I seldom rate products I buy on Amazon, they usually work well. I realize it is my fault for not paying attention to the details, like the ingredients. The second one on the lable is SUGAR. Not only am I cutting down on sugar in general, but the taste was NOT what I was expecting at all. Having a Norwegian father who loved Sill, I grew up on the stuff. I have exhaused all the choices I have in my area searching for the best product I thought I'd try the internet. Needless to say I am very dissapionted in this product. Since I bought 2 jars I'm kinda stuck with it. So I completely drained the jar and rinsed the fish in a strainer, then put it back in the jar with fresh onion, cloves, white vinegar and the brine of an empty jar of herring of my liking. Fish tastes much better now but still has a sweetish taste. Will continue to search for somethng else.
