Value-added Great Noodles
I've had the entire Samyang range, and my usual is the 2X Buldak Chicken Stir-Fried, and I have their 2X sauce in my fridge. But what completes the dish are the noodles which are satisfyingly chewy and bouncy, and hang on to the sauce. It is a feat to create dried noodles that come out so well. If Samyang sold the noodles on their own I'd buy them since I can whip up my own spicy sauce (largely gochujang, soy sauce, and capcaicin). But their sauces are delicious too. This is effectively the 1x, but don't let that fool you, it's still spicy, and can be very spicy if you do not regularly consume spicy foods. Spice is something you can acclimate to but it needs to be very regularly consumed to build up tolerance.Preparation is straightforward. You boil the noodles in measured water for five minutes. You pour out the starchy water, but leaving "8 tablespoons" behind. You mix in the sauce packet, then stir-fry the noodles in it for 30 seconds or until the sauce reduces to your liking and clings to the noodles. Optionally add the seasoning packet which has seaweed flakes and sesame seeds. I usually skip the packet since that's where a lot of sodium comes from and I add my own toppings and accompaniment. The packet can be used for other meals like livening up (read: salting) a veggie side like broccoli.A note on how much starch water to "remain": The less water you use, the drier the sauce, and it can get more potent. More water, and the sauce is diluted somewhat, with less clinging to the noodles. Even more water and it's no longer a stir-fry and the sauce is looser. If you don't want spice this is counter-productive as a more liquid sauce will more efficiently coat your mouth.Add whatever you like to the noodles. An egg is a common protein. I like hard boiling to a jammy yolk and breaking it over the noodles. Veggies, green ones in particular, can help shift the noodle toward the healthy end. French cut green beans and spinach work well with long noodles, and the slight bitterness works well with the slight sweetness in the sauce. For my latest meal I cut a poblano into long slices. If you need to cool things down, fat binds to capcaicin, so you could keep a glass of milk nearby. Melted cheese is another option or toss mozzarella on top. Full fat yogurt is very effective. Or let it happen and get acclimated while seeing the heavens. The chopstick packages were plain, not branded, but I don't care. The chopsticks have a nice thickness and weight balance, and I prefer un-lacquered wood since it has great natural grip. These noodles will stain them red, so the five sets you get can be considered disposable. But these types of chopsticks have great utility after primary use. I've made an in-wok smoking rack out of them (after soaking). If you can't find this at your local Asian grocer or you don't have one at all, this is a good option. The packages sustained some slight noodle breakage in transit. The 5-pack is 5 servings which generally lasts me at least 5 weeks since I try to space out the extreme sodium content. Health food this is not, but it sure is enjoyable.

Kids Prefer this to Shin Ramen
My sons (age 10 and 13) are ramen lovers. They would eat it every day of their life if they could. They are becoming quite the connoisseurs of ramen, so I'm always looking to try different ones. These are a little different than the standard ramen pack - these boil for 5 mins then you stirfry them for about a minute. If you prefer a drier noodle, this is made for you. My kids made them both ways - brothy and fried, and they found both ways to be satisfying. My older son found these to be a bit too spicy for him BUT loved them with some Kewpie mayo mixed in. My kids found them to be a more flavorful heat than Shin ramen (they think those are only made to blow out your mouth with heat), but YMMV.If you like spicy, definitely give these a shot. The noodle quality is nicer than some other brands (definitely better than like a Maruchan or Nissin noodle).

springy, chewy noodles, hot and tasty flavor
These packets made springy, chewy noodles which were enjoyable texture-wise. Like most noodles, they get their flavor from what you eat with them rather than have much flavor themselves. The noodles cooked up well using the instructions on the product page. The spice packet is very good, but very hot. If you're sensitive, it's best to just use about half the packet of spice or less. I found this worked well with adding a protein (chicken or boiled egg) and some spring onions. It is high in sodium (which is usual for these sorts of things), so that is also something to keep an eye on, but it is a cut above budget ramen noodles. It was a nice bonus that they included chopsticks.

Spicy and delicious
Okay, it's spicy! Not the spiciest food I've had (dumping habanero sauce on tacos without tasting it first is a mistake I only need to make once), but it is right up there. But I've never made ramen at home before, and these noodles are wonderful. They stay together and don't break up or disintegrate as you are eating them. They were super easy to make using the package directions, but it would also be easy to use these as a base for soup and add a bunch of veggies and meat or tofu. You could even make your own sauce lol. I think the noodles are the star, but the 8 tbsp of water plus the sauce packet does make for a nice, sauce dish. You just might want to hold back on some of the sauce packet! Or do what I did and add a bunch of ricotta cheese. It actually worked really well.

"I can see through time." Delicious, but very spicy. A lot of salt.
These are good ramen noodles. The noodles themselves have a good chew as they are slightly thicker than the 25 cent packs of ramen from the college days. The seasoning is made of two packets – a dry packet with a few sesame seeds and about a half a gram of seaweed and a wet packet with a delicious, super-spicy sauce that has too much salt to be considered healthy (1630 mg per serving). The dry packet seems to be for show as it adds so little volume, it’s just a waste of the plastic. As for the wet sauce, it’s very good, but it’s very spicy. Due to having 70% of the US RDA for salt, I’d say hold back on the water a bit, add only half the seasoning packet directly to the noodles, and you’ll still have a very spicy dish. The spice is strong – your lips will burn, but it’s an amazingly delicious flavor. This is what spicy food should taste like – you feel the heat, but you also taste the flavor.
