Highly recommended
Just wonderful. Soothed my sore shoulder, eased my back pain, helped ward off my son's cold symptoms and works a treat 7 mins on my face (with special infrared goggles or blindfold) to keep my face clear and clear spots.I also use it for relaxation, such a wonderful sleep to be had when used just before bedtime. Apparently infrared light detoxes your body too, so i can oy say positive things about my experience with this lamp. Was also supplied with a UK plug adapter.

A job in progress
Following a fall, I have suffered pain in my ankle and lower back. I received physiotherapy and that helped but colder weather has brought symptoms back and I hoped that this device might assist. Having checked out the manual, which recommends consulting your GP before use, I confess I felt scared to death, particularly as there are some contradictory messages/areas open to interpretation within the manuals. The lamp should be suitable for treating bad skin but refers to removing make-up first. No problem with that and it could be referring to body make-up but it is mainly used on the face and that is where many individuals may wish to target bad skin since it can be covered up elsewhere. However, this device is specifically not for use on the face and you also need to close your eyes/not look at the device whilst it works on a countdown.I am also not clear about the environment in which it can safely be used. It refers to domestic users (fine) but then states that floors should be concrete, wood or tiled. If there are synthetic coverings, relative humidity should be at least 30%. So, I am not sure about therefore using this in a carpeted room (most of the house) or if I must therefore limit use to the kitchen, ruling out the bathroom on safety grounds.I am going to check whether I should use this when I can next get an appointment with my GP since use is only really recommended under their guidance. I will update when I feel better informed.

Read the instructions - don't use it on your face
Remember the aliens from HG Wells "War of the Worlds"? Their primary offensive weapon was a heat ray. Somehow the scientists at Medisana were able to reverse engineer these engines of destruction and turn them to healing purposes. That's my theory.Basically, an infrared lamp directs an invisible beam of energy which tends to pass through air with minimal loss of power until it hits something which it can excite. In effect this means that there is little radiant heat - move your hand, for instance, an inch away from the beam and you won't feel a thing. Ultimately this means that a 300w lamp actually feels a lot warmer because of this efficiency.I'm a great believer in using heat to encourage healing and have spent a small fortune on disposable, stick-on heating pads over the years. When using the lamp you're going to have to use your best judgement in order to position both the lamp and the part of your body you want to be treated. There's a timer which has a max setting of fifteen minutes and which the instructions say you shouldn't exceed. I'd pay attention to this, as there is a real risk of over-doing it. There IS such a thing as too much of a good thing!Be aware the glass front will heat up, much like the glass door on an oven.It heats up to full power pretty much instantly. There's 35 degrees, apparently, of play in the stand, allowing you to tilt the lamp up and down somewhat. It's dead simple to operate, but as I mentioned earlier, you may need to do a bit of thinking, or use your Twister skills, in order to make sure the heat goes where you need it to.I have trouble with my neck and more recently with my shoulders (because picking up new aches and pains seems to be my latest hobby) and the heat feel fantastic for that.NB the instructions STRESS that you mustn't use this on your face, and it's hard to see why you would want to unless you've strained your face smiling or something, but worth mentioning again in case anyone thinks this is a sunlight or similar.Overall it's functional and not too fussy to use, the only downside being that its size, while compact, still limits you somewhat with positioning.

Heat Lamp
Bought as my husband has a foot muscle problem. This lamp is great as it sits on a stool so he can sit with his foot up whilst using. A very worthwhile buy

Medisana IR885 Infrared Heat Lamp
Infrared heat lamps were all the rage a number of years ago led by the iconic conical shaped lamps produced by Philips. They seem to have gone out of vogue in recent years probably due to the introduction of TENS machines and the like.German manufacturer Medisana look to be trying to buck this trend with this infrared lamp which contains a few modern touches. The lamp comes in a white plastic housing measuring 200w x 300h x 150d with the lamp itself being fitted in a housing that allows for a certain amount of tilt up and down for focusing the heat. A 300 watt ceramic infrared lamp lamp sits behind a 150 x 165 window below which are the controls. At the bottom right is a green on/off power button and pressing this turns the lamp on, starts the 15 minute countdown timer and associated LED display, and also illuminates a 'Do not touch' indicator. The maximum recommended time for treatment is 15 minutes but this can be shortened by pressing the timer button next to the display. On completion of the treatment session the lamp turns off but the cooling fan continues to run until the temperature of the unit falls. One nice touch is that the mains lead stows away neatly into the base of the machine and while the lead is fitted with a moulded continental 2 pin plug a pre-fitted UK 3 pin mains adapter is supplied. If you suffer from muscle ached and the odd twinge this may just sort you out.
