Fun and simple for all the family
I ordered the WSGALARY Shut The Box game for 2 Players for my 5 year old son.I've wanted to try this game for a long time. It's very popular for teaching infant school children basic maths combinations. The product arrived well packaged and in very good condition.I love the solid wood construction of the Shut The Box game with its forest green felt base. The concept of the game is quite simple and I think it was originally derived from gambling. This version is aimed at children and families.Ensure all of the number blocks are upright. One player rolls the dice, adds the total and knocks down 2 numbers that add up to the total. For example, if you roll a 4 and a 5 (9), you can knock down any 2 numbers that add up to 9.You can also select the 1 number 9, if you have only 1 option to select. The same player keeps going until they are stuck. The 2nd player takes their turns. The aim is to try to knock down all of the numbers or as close to zero as possible. It's a surprisingly addictive game and we spent several hours over a handful of sittings playing it.You can add a timer for older players to make it a bit more fun and interactive. The Shut The Box game is compact and appears to be well manufactured with no defects or marks. It's easy to put away, store and highly portable to take on day trips, short and long haul holidays.Overall, a simple and addictive table top family game at a reasonable price for the quality.

Great for Maths practice
A lovely game perfect for the classroomThe object of the game is to flip all of the numbered tiles to the down (closed)position. The player does this by rolling two die at a time.TO START: Player #1 rolls the dice on to the open area of the box. Using thetotal number on the two die, the player flips over 1 or more numbered tiles. For example, the following tile combinations could be flipped for a total roll of 9:1, 2 and6; 1, 3 and 5; 1 and 8; 2, 3 and 4; 2 and 7; 3 and 6; 4 and 5).Tiles having been closed remain flipped down for that player’s entire play.Player #1 continues to roll until remaining tiles matching the total number rolledcan no longer be flipped. At this point, the player’s turn is finished. The numbersshown on the unflipped tiles are added together to become the player’s score.(For example, if tiles 1, 2 and 5 remain up (Open). This would result in a score of8 points: 1 + 2 + 5 = 8).It’s now Player #2’s turn. All tiles are flipped up (Opened), and the Player #2 pro-ceeds in the same manner as Player #1.If a player successfully flips over (Closes) ALL the numbered the tiles, the boxis declared “shut”, and the player is immediately declared the winner. If no oneshuts the box, the player with the lowest total points wins.If two players end up with the same final score, everyone re-antes (if you arebetting), and a new game begins. The first player rolling the tied score begins thenew round.Special Note on Dice: To avoid damage tothe playing area of your game, please usedice similar to those accompanying thisgame (light weight with rounded edges). These dice are specially designed for use on the game

What do you do?
I'll start off by saying this makes an interesting and mildly stretching arithmetic game for someone like my 8 year old. It's simple, but engaging in the same way that someone older might think of sudoku.Unfortunately the package as a whole is let down by:1. a ridiculous plastic bag2. no instructions whatsoeverReading through other reviews I see people started playing it the way we played it at first (doing arithmetic on the two dice numbers) but I came to the conclusion that we were supposed to just add the two dice numbers together and then use the pegs to do the arithmetic (e.g. if you roll two sixes and only pegs 6,7 & 9 are standing you can say "(9-7) x 6 matches my 12". We enjoyed this way better, but what's correct? Perhaps there's another way where you can do arithmetic on the dice AND the pegs separately? This deserved more stars, but it's fundamentally flawed if we're all having to guess and debate how to play it. If you buy this for someone you're going to have to point them to the Amazon listing and tell them to piece together the playing instructions from a couple of advertising photos.

A game for all ages
I got this so that we had a game that all the family, even my young grandchildren could play. I love wooden toys, so much nicer than plastic and the joy of board games is that you can usually play them straight out of the box without the need for assembly or inserting batteries. It is a well made game, we are not talking master craftsmanship but there are no rough edges and the parts move freely. We did struggle due to there being no instructions but a quick google search assisted with that. For the current price of £8.99 this is well worth the money. Would recommend.

we liked it for young children
It's refreshing to find a game that doesn't rely on batteries. This way, we always have something new to entertain young visitors. And the wooden construction offers a pleasant change from the usual plastic toys.Shut the Box is a versatile game that can be enjoyed by players of all ages, even as young as three or four. It's a great way to have fun while also helping younger players develop their number skills. While Shut the Box is an old game, it's still as enjoyable as ever. The included instructions might be a bit lacking, but a quick online search provides clear guidance.Given the price, the quality of the wooden construction is reasonable. It's not the finest craftsmanship, but it's more than adequate for the fun it provides.
