Biggest con since covid
Why did you choose this product over others?:The hype was real, really liked the resolution, paid £769 which I thought was for a complete headset. Turns out you need to pay another £200 to subscribe, and if you don't subscribe within 14 days then the headset gets locked, and you cannot use. Was away from my rig for 3 weeks, locked out of an expensive headset, cannot return the product, and not willing to pay another £200 to activate the headset, when Amazon have now reduced it by £100, I feel very cheated with this, and totally misled when I purchased this now very expensive paperweight... No mention about having to pay more when you purchse this... very angry and dissapointed

Fantastic for PCVR, I'm glad I chose the PIMAX Crystal Light over the Quest 3.
I already have 700hrs in Elite Dangerous but playing in VR with this headset was like a massive update to the game and a true WOW experience! There are no compression artifacts to break emersion - when you look into the black of space you don't see blotches or pixelation. However, even with local dimming maxed the HUD and ship do have some glow around them in space -- only a significantly more expensive OLED display can eliminate that. The glow is not distracting for me and I dismiss it as a slight condensation/dirt effect on a car windscreen in real-life.The audio quality is ok for gaming but it is a bit quiet even at maximum. I plugged in some cheap wired ear-buds for a big improvement and even more emersion. The built in microphone seems to work well with Voice Attack. The optical quality is very good indeed, the FOV seem big and the sweet spot is also quite big. There is some blurring right at the very edge of the display but its not a real issue (I'm playing a game not looking at pictures!).Even though the sweet spot is big wearing glasses means it can be tricky to setup the ideal position each time without chromatic aberration. I can wear vari-focal glasses comfortably with this headset but I've now switched to clip-in lens from VR Optician. Switching to clip-in lens greatly improved my comfort, image contrast and clarity over the whole screen and there is no fiddling needed to get the best visuals. The lens prescription needs to be for a 1m focus. With my face shape I needed the thicker foam face plate. This is my first VR headset so I didn't know what to expect. When I wear glasses in real life everything I look at is framed by my glasses (everything outside the frame is blurred of course) . With this setup I have the same wide FOV except things outside the frame are black. Its a bit like wearing a scuba facemask with a large rounded-rectangular window. Its not like using binoculars. Its very comfortable to wear but I did add a top strap for improved support. If you can run the headset at full-resolution it gives fantastic visuals. I use the PIMAX Crystal Light with an AMD 5800X3D and Radeon 7900xt. In ED, tweaking visuals with FSR and a mix of ultra, high and medium quality settings I get a steady 50+fps in stations and a steady 70+ in space. Alternatively I can drop resolution in Steam VR to 68% and max everything to ultra. But for me the best experience is with full resolution.

Pimax Crystal Light: Total Rip off and Massive Disappointment
The media could not be loaded. So, I got the Pimax Crystal Light, paid my £654.99 on Amazon, and whit 15% discount, thinking I was all good. Turns out, Pimax pulls a fast one: buried in the specs, it says you need pay extra after 14 days of purchase for some Membership garbage. It's not optional, it's just a hidden fee. What an absolute scam they hide a chunk of the price after you've already bought it!Beyond that shifty pricing, the headset itself is shocking. Feels like cheap plastic. The trigger on the controller was squeaking right out of the box, for crying out loud. The cable's a huge, stiff beast, and the headset? Bulky and the most uncomfortable VR I've ever owned. Seriously, my old Pico 4, which is three times cheaper, has better build quality and is way comfier. The visuals weren't even a big step up.Totally hyped myself up for this, but after an hour, it's going back. What a paperweight. Just save your money and get a Meta Quest 3 instead. This Pimax is a joke.

Pimax Crystal Light
Had this just over a day and wow very impressed with it.I own the hp reverb g2 and this is miles better.I saw a few reviews about lens issues etc but mine seem to be ok love the clarity of the image. Not tested it yet on my simracing yet but can't wait to try it on it.It more comfortable than I was led to believe by some reviews but not had it on for more than an hour. But no issues for me upto now very happy.

5 Stars overall, once the spending stops . . .
There's an awful lot to like here, BUT, this is far from out of the box ready.Be prepared for some IPD configuration and lens offsetting.Be prepared to buy alternative headstraps, 3D printed adapters and face foams for comfort.Be prepared to buy base stations and tripods for 6DOFBe prepared to buy controllers.Be prepared to wrestle with Steam VR.Be prepared for Pimax's somewhat low rent, but functional, Pitool.I've spent considerably more than the headset itself cost to get things anywhere near approaching ready to go for a proper experience, and the headset can still prove to be painful around my nose and eye sockets. Either that, or tighten everything up so tight to keep it from resting on those areas that your head ends up resembling a number 8 and starve your brain of blood and oxygenHowever, despite all that, and once it's off the ground functionality-wise, the wide field of view is well worth it. Be liberated from looking through a loo roll into your VR delights, but instead presented with some fantastic wide immersion. My Quest 2, with Bobo VR add-ons (much better than the official upgrades) is comparable in comfort to wearing my favorite aviators. A stark contrast is the Pimax, which is more akin to a medieval torture device before modding. However, it is night and day FOV-wise, so the Quest 2 is difficult to go back to for me. Same with the Rift CV1 I have, which I oddly prefer to the Quest 2.So, if you have a credit card able to take the financial ravaging, I give 5 stars for the experience overall, but knock it down to a 3 as there's so much time and expense involved to get there . . .
