Bought to plant the larger elements of 600 metres of hedgerow.Works very well, & to get the earth plug out, all you need to do is start on the next plug!The bolts sheared off, but we replaced them & the planter continued to do a good job. We have now lent it to a friend so they can plant their hedge.

I bought two of these planters and found they were simply not fit for purpose. the planter would cut out a plug, leaving the hole for the bulb, but the core was stuck in the planter and almost impossible to release. It took almost 10 minutes to free the core before the planter could be used again. I have now had both modified by a local welder and they now cut a hole for the bulb and release the core when the next hole is cut which allow a large number of bulbs to be planted in a reasonable time frame. Why Yeoman could not design the product properly is a complete mystery.Unless you have access to metal working machinery and welding do not even consider this product - as it arrives it is unfit for purpose.

It's well made and sturdy. Wouldn't want to plant a hundred bulbs in one go though as getting the plug out is tedious.

I brought two of these as I found myself with 950 bulbs to plant and wanted somehting to make the task quicker and easier on the back! I was planting on an established lawn.Positives: - Feels solid - Handle comfortable - Good area for pushing with a welly (or jumping on with both feet!) - Cuts through soil easily (and copes with reasonable size roots as well) - Cuts out a perfectly circular/compacted soil 'plug' which goes back easilyNegatives: - Screws holding the handle to the cutter can work loose - easy to retighten - Handle can bend if you spend too mcuh time jumping on it with both feet and holding on!The first one coped with about 700 bulbs before the handle was too twisted to carry on (the cutter was still sharp) - I consider that to have been substantially more use than it may have been designed to withstandIt works best if you can work in a routine - remove a row of soil/turf cores (I did about 45 at a time, insert bulbs in hole, replace soil plug, firm down with welly. Even better if a willing volunteer follows you inserting bulbs and soil cores as you remove them!!!Overall pleased with the purchase, and I beleive it saved several hours and a great deal of kneeling/back ache.
