No there is no switch to higher or lower the brushes, but we have found it works on all floor types, we have had ours for 3 years now and it works as it did when new..

Q: Pictire says 400w descrition says 700w. Which is it?

The Russell Hobbs RHUV5601 Athena 2 vacuum cleaner comes with a 400W. The RHUV5001 that's in the description comes with a 700W motor. This is clearly misleading advertising. I would not have purchased this product if I had known it was only a 400W motor and definitely not at that price.

Q: Dose it clean.deep pile carpet

We have a fairly long pile rug, it cleans that very well although it is quite difficult to push on the long pile. It is perfect for our hard floors and I manage to vacuum the rug but wouldn't want to have to vacuum a whole room if it was long pile carpet!
