Corset Couture Paper Dolls (Dover Paper Dolls) Hardcover – January 16, 2013

Brenda Sneathen Mattox is rapidly gaining on Tom Tierney when it comes to skill and finesse in the paper doll industry. I didn't care for some of her earlier work, but this set of paper dolls is exquisite! The models are realistic and elegant, and the garments are well-drawn, with a hint of personalized style.You get two female models, one facing front and one with her back to you, plus a male model who only has a couple of outfits. The garments include a series of historical corsets, followed by a modern-day "inspired by" look. Quite lovely, indeed. My only quibble is the "16th Century Iron Corset." Yes, such corsets existed, but historians generally believe they were used for medical purposes, such as for a patient with a deformed spine or other such malady. They weren't fashionable, so I don't see why a normal corset of the era wouldn't have sufficed. That's really my only complaint. The artwork is beautiful, the corsets were (mostly) well-researched, and the modern-day examples are lovely in their own right.Just a note: these are paper dolls, but they're intended more for adult collectors, not children.Five stars and highly recommended to anyone who enjoys historical costuming, fashion in general, or art.

Who knew there was such a thing as corset couture and that it could become a paper doll book? Well it did and it is fun too look at.Ms. Mattox put a lot of time and energy in this book to get designs right. This is a book worthy of any collection.

Thick. Luxurious. Masterfully drawn. This is an excellent addition to my paper doll collection. If you are considering this book. Let me help you...it is worth it.

I like paper dolls. I discoveried these books recently and I like it a lot. Im remembering my childhood. I like also the clothes design through the years.
