I use this with my struggling readers at about 4th grade level. The choose-your-own idea is very motivating for them!

Great for kids and fun for adults too.
My youngest daughter (age 10) is so into these books. She loves to make different choices within the books to see the various outcomes.

Great adventure
This is a really good book to read when students are studying Antarctica. The historic part is done very well, even though it is quite brief. I would have liked the choice of going on with Amundsen or going to land, when he revealed that he was going to the South Pole rather than the North Pole as his crew originally thought. What stopped me giving it an even higher rating is that it says that Mawson is a British explorer. He is most definitely Australian and even features on the Australian $100 note. This needs to be corrected. However the vocabulary is easy to read and the photographs are well placed and interesting. I will be using this book with my class and it is useful for older students who have learning difficulties. The use of a Table of Contents, Glossary, Index etc and the survival questions at the back make it a very useful teaching tool. Thank you!

My 9yr old's favorite book
My son wants to be an antarctic scientist when he grows up, so this book was perfect for him. His favorite animals are penguins, and there are a couple penguin pictures in this book too. Such a fun concept & well done, we'll definitely be getting other titles in this series.

The "Can you survive Antarctica?" book was just nominated for a Minnesota Book Award, and deserves it. Rachael Hanel did an amazing job as the writer.
