Great for Caving--tested in Vietnam Jungle!
I bought these for a four-night trek through the Vietnam jungle through the largest cave in the world, Son Doong. The caving experts recommended the Five Ten Canyoneer shoes but at nearly $200 I couldn't swing that. These have the same grippy sole that the Canyoneers have but they are much more affordable. I believe these were perfect for my needs. They were super grippy and we did a lot of rock climbing, both on wet and dry surfaces, and these soles made me like a gecko, especially compared to others in our group who had Keens and Merrells and the like. I also needed shoes that were not waterproof, as we would be crossing a lot of rivers and waterproof boots hold water. These did end up staying soggier than I would have liked, so that's my only beef with them. They were able to dry out in one day in an air conditioned hotel room upon our return, but our camps were too humid for them to dry completely during the trip. They were super comfortable for the duration of the journey. The terrain was extremely rough underfoot for most of the trip and these did a good job of keeping my feet stable. They do run small: I'm normally between an 8.5 and a 9 and I bought these in a 9.5 (the size I usually buy for running shoes) and they were perfect. So I would say get at least a half size up...if you're in between sizes, go a full size up from your smaller size. In the photo you can see they look a bit chunky but they served me well despite that. The photo is after two days of hiking through the jungle, crossing a river more than 30 times, and scrambling over lots of rocks. I definitely plan to use these again for camping and hiking stateside, as they are super comfortable. I would not have changed anything about my shoe selection for this cave trip, but if I were to do a longer amphibious trip where grippiness was less of a concern, I would go with something that dries more quickly. This was a solid purchase and I would definitely recommend this as a comfortable shoe that grips like a gecko!

DO NOT BUY THESE FOR SERIOUS HIKES
i Previously wrote a positive review for these shoes. I use 5 Ten climbing shoes and love them. I thought that rep alone would translate to the rest of the shoe line. Unfortunately, I MUST give these only 1 Star . Due to a busy travel schedule, I was not able to hike (even day hike) or backpack. I did not put a lot of miles on these shoes as you can tell by the FRESH label on the tongue of the shoe. I went overnight back packing in the Adorandaks May 8th 2019. I was only 2 miles into the hike ( mostly Forrest floor with a few wet spots and minor changes in elevation). I began to have trouble keeping my footing. I looked down and noticed the sole of the shoe near the toe box was delaminating. I did not have another pair of shoes so I had to tough it out in these. Another 1.5 miles the other sole began to delaminate. We stopped to make camp when I had to perform emergency surgery on the boots. Out of duct tape I had no other option but to cut the soles off back to the arch. Unfortunately, my 3 day hike was cut short because of the shoe failure . I was able to make it back to the trail head on the shoe with careful foot placement. Maybe these shoes are ok for city walks but .....DO NOT BUY THESE FOR SERIOUS HIKES.

Awesome Shoe!
Love this shoe from the moment I saw it online. I live in Australia, so to get these shoes, I had to spent a lot of money getting a US address and then pay excessive shipping costs, all the while hoping the size was right. Thank god they are perfect! (fi anything, they run small, rather than large) Very sticky sole, which was the main reason for choosing the Exum Guide. I also ordered the Five Ten "Prodigy" shoe - and this doesn't fit at all - way too small. Both shoes are very well made, very stable and great features. My only hesitation in ordering from Five Ten again would be the fear of sizing, as they seem to run small from all the feedback and from my experience.

Hard to judge size.
This shoe seems well made-time will tell. Due to cautions about being too large, I ordered 8 B, I wear7 B. I should have ordered 7 1/2 A. It's really tuff guessing. The 8 B is too wide and slightly too long. So I'll wear heavy socks in summer. I think this shoe could be a real winner.

Somewhat small
I really like these shoes. They look small on my feet unlike other hiking shoes. I'm size 8 in street shoes ang got 8.5 but they feel more like 8. It's ok with thin socks. Hope they will stretch a bit. Wish I got 9.

defect detected on left lace
The shoes were received with a torn lace. The lace is cut by a badly crimped eyelet. Depreciated held firm enough on the first use. Good impression of solidity and good adhesion of the sole. Comfortable heel.
