Great-convenient-light weight . . . does the job!
Super sharpening rod!! Light weight . . . maybe 2oz and only the size of a 6” pocket knife when folded. This is great for the minamalist backpacker or outdoor sportsmen, who is particular about keeping their blades sharp in the field or where ever. If your blade is needing a touch up this is a great tool to have. I have 3 different 600g diamond rod sharpeners ( cheap-mid-high end ) and this one is the best buy, for convenients and cost. My cheap one ($5 China) is lacking in a good amount of grit on the rod and will be dead after 25-30 blades, the Lansky will be good for +100s.*-This is not a heavy duty sharpening tool-*That being said the folding butterfly style handle is not super strong at the rod connection, and will break if loads of pressure is put on the blade when honing. . . but this is not a sharpening tool for such a heavy job.

Good tool, works well.
This is a nice sharpening tool. I have a not very expensive but good serrated bread knife from a kitchen supply. I've got a lot of experience sharpening kitchen knives and carpentry tools, and I've made every possible mistake. I was surprised at how much of the length of this tool I used sharpening my bread knife, it's difficult to tell what exactly is happening, there's a bit of tarnish in the grooves that I used to see if it was working. What was more noticeable was the burr on the flat side. Good tool, great price. The general rule for a diamond sharpener is to use water, this keeps them from clogging up with metal particles. Clogging can make a diamond sharpener less effective sooner. They do wear out, but they hold up for a long time.

Great for sharpening cat clippers
I ordered it to sharpen my cat nail clippers and human nail clippers. It does both well. I also use my cat clippers to cut my dachshunds’ nails. It definitely makes the process easier. Not sure how long it will last as I see diamond dust coming off, but we shall see. Overall it works well now and does what’s expected.

Great for my use!
I used this the day it came to sharpen an old bread knife. Worked like a charm! It would have been easier if we had a vice to hold the knife, but I made it work without one. I tried to give each scallop three swipes, however I'm sure I wasn't exact, because of the no vice issue. Didn't matter, the knife was much sharper anyway. I have 2 more well used serrated knives to sharpen. I assume I'll have equally good results, but will need to wait for tomato season to test. The foldable handle makes it easy to tuck away in the kitchen.

Works much better then expected!
I had a set of Cutco knives given to us as our wedding gift, 29 years ago. They had been relegated to the back of the drawer, sitting in the shadow of new, sharper, flat edged knives over the years. After my wife bemoaned the fact that her favorite bread knife was a dull as her husband of 29 years, I ordered this "rat tail" sharpener to see if I could resurrect these serrated blades. Using a black sharpie to ink the scalloped edge, and one Youtube video later, I was able to figure out the correct angle. Don't be fooled, to much pressure will pull off a crazy amount of steel, let the diamonds do the work. One or two strokes per scallop, and the first knife was back to an impressive edge. I then proceeded to grab every serrated knife in the house, and go to town. Thirty minutes later, I had 8 knives back to usable sharpness, including the 10 inch bread knife. I highly recommend this product!

sharpening rod for serrated knives
This rod works great.I was under the impression that the handle folded up protecting the rod the handle does fold and kind of protects the rod but nothing keeps it closed, it can open right up exposing the rod. It needs to completely seal and lock around the rod.

Great sharpener, great price!
I got this sharpener to work on a gut hook on my skinning knife. It works amazingly! It makes fast and easy work of a task that can sometimes be a huge pain. I am very pleased with this, especially for the price.

Misses the mark for me.
I have no problems with the build or material quality of this sharpener. I only gave it 3 stars because it does not suit my purposes well. I find the actual file length too short and too steeply tapered. For example with my kitchen bread knife only first half to 1 inch of the file right next to the handle is of a decent diameter. This would be more functional for me if Lansky made two sharpeners , each covering only 1/2 of the tapering of the current file so that there was one file for large serrations like bread knives and the other for smaller serrations like those found camping knives.
