Definitely a premium filter
I bought two premium filters from Amazon recently to compare:Hastings AF1280, Amazon part number B000JZHAE0PTC PA5592, Amazon B00DW4UIA8Both look like exact fitment for my Subaru, and for most Subarus, which generally have the same airbox. One note is that some reviewers say it won't fit. It will, but it's really really hard to pull the airbox open enough to get one out and the other in. That's a problem with cramming the airbox into such a tight space, so blame Subaru rather than the filter manufacturer. The Hastings filter is completely different materials and construction from any other filter I've seen (including the ones oil change places have used and that I have gotten at parts store counters). The PTC is exactly the same plastic part as the others I have used in the past, and may also be the same filter medium. I can't see a difference, except that the filter material could possibly be a bit thicker. It's unclear whether that's because this one is brand new versus the used one I pulled out, which is all used up, but I *think* the filter is exactly the same, meaning I paid $15 for a $6 filter. In contrast, the Hastings filter is obviously different. To me, that justifies the premium price point.I have no way to compare performance of these filters. All I can say is that the PTC seems to be a generic part and the Hastings seems to be manufactured differently. If I'm going to spend extra money on one of these filters to try to get premium performance, I'm going with the Hastings.

Good airfilter, not that easy to install on 09 WRX
This filter looks nearly identical to my OEM filter for my 2009 Subaru WRX. So far it has worked well and I have not gotten any warning lights indicating my MAF or any other sensor is seeing something off since the install. However, I will let everyone know that at least for the 09 WRX, the felt that rims the filter is a bit thicker than the OEM filter. Not enough to make it un-installable, but enough to make it a tough fit that will require a few tries before you get the stock air box to close. Some of the issue I had installing it also has to do with the way the 09 WRX air box is designed. It is not the easiest air box to replace the filter on.Overall a good product that appears to be doing what it says it does. However, if you have a really tight or awkward airbox location that doesn't allow you easy access, you may want to stick with OEM.

Hastings is the way to go if not sticking to oem
If it isn't an oem filter then it had better be a Hastings, always have had good luck with this brand for all types of filters and recommend to anyone for every application on or off road.
