what tone does this play?

personally I think it is pretty high pitched. Not the nice deep gong sound. We had to swap out the mallets, which helped, the wooden mallet it comes with makes a very high pitched sound. Better, but overall not a recommended purchase.

it is terrible........ no zen could not even make it gong

is the overall size 8x9x2?

If that is what the measurement says, it sounds about right - it seems very small / cheap to me....I have it on the back side of a shelf....
