Will these work on a larger mug? I need covers for soup mugs that are 4" across the top.

I measured lid and at it's smallest location it's exactly 4 inches. Works very well, good luck.

How do you put the glass knob on the silicone cover? No instructions included with product.

There is a little hole on the top of the colic one cover. The bottom of the knob goes into it. The silicone stretches so you can get it in there. If you get one edge of the knob in there, and then twist it around a few times, like you are turning a doorknob, while pushing it in, it should go in there pretty easily. It's a tight fit so it doesn't come off during use. Then when you are using the tops they do seal to glasses and cups pretty well, so when removing, do NOT pull up on the knob; just pull it up from the edge and it will come right off.

One place says bpa free another says made of bpa food grade silicone (what does that mean?) and which is it bpa free or the other???

I got four sizes...5.750", 7.625", 10.125" and 11.625". They work well. Really like them.
