Works great, low cost, low maintenance if you follow these simple guidelines to avoid the most common reasons for bad reviews. 1) You must use the Xikar solution only, not regular 50/50 pg solution. It's a different formula. 2) The jar comes with a small amount of crystals. This is normal. They expand like crazy. 3) To avoid leakage, fill the jar only halfway with Xikar solution, then wait an hour. If not to fill line yet, add a little bit more. Wait 1 more hour before placing in humidor. Keep both lids on while you're waiting. Remove outer lid before placing in humidor. Note that the 'Fill' line is the skinny line on the side of the jar, not the thick blue band that goes all the way around the top. 4) Humidor must be seasoned first. Happy puffin'!

I bought a new 4oz. Xikar humidifier to replace a very old 2 oz. Xikar jar that I accidentally lost half of the original crystals. The new 4 oz. arrived dry with not enough crystals to cover the bottom of the jar. My spilled 2 oz. hd much more crystals even after I lost half of them. I have always bought Xikar lighters, ash trays, cutters, and travel humididors. Their products were always top notch and I was well satisfied with them and their guarantee. I am truly disappointed and surprised. EDITTED: THE SELLER, Xikar, HAS MADE AN IMMEDIATE RESPONSE AND IS CORRECTING THE ISSUE. PERHAPS I DID NOT ADDRESS THE SITUATION PROPERLY. Xikar was very polite and concerned and I should have contacted them directly first. THEY ARE STILL AN EXCELLENT COMPANY AND OFFER GREAT WARRANTY AND STAND BY IT. My sincere thank you out to Xikar.

I purchased these as a way of providing humidification in a few coolerdors to handle the overflow of cigars from by cabinet humidor. In each of the 3 coolers, I have this Xikar 4oz jar coupled with a  Xikar Cigar Humidifier (For humidor of 250 cigars)  magnetically held humidifier. The coolerdors are 48qt size and the 2 devices together provide a constant 68% to 70% humidity in each. I'm using PG solution to recharge them and check the levels every 2 weeks or so. The only concern I have is the dark spots in the gel...which Xikar says is normal. While these items are a bit more money than the off brands, I'm putting my trust of my cigars in the hands of a company that has never let me down...whether it's their cutters, punches, v-cutters, their cigars (which surprisingly are pretty good), and their cigar traveler cases. The first setup is about 6 months old, the second is about 4 months old, and I just set up the third one about a month ago....all are registering the same humidity levels measured by calibrated digital hygrometers. When you think about it, this is a small price to pay when you factor in the cost of the cigars they protect. I'm happy with their performance so far and I'll update this review should something change. As a point of reference to all that read this review, I'm a 35+ year cigar smoker and have tried all types of humidification solutions over the years and this version is one of the most reliable I've experienced first hand.UPDATE 2/25/2015: Still going strong after almost 3 years. They hold a consistent 64 to 68% humidity in my coolerdors without fail. I was never a fan of gel humidification, but these have changed my mind about them. Highly recommended.

I have been using 2 of these in my humidor (200 cigar with 50ish cigars) for over a month now and they work quite well. They seem to keep my humidor between 71 and 73. They seem pretty reliable and maintenance free. I will probably try using the solution and distilled water to refill the two and compare how effective they become over a few months. Definitely worth $9, and I'm happy I got the larger size! Make sure you get the 4oz over the 2oz.

Over one year, in a 200 count box, my humidity level had crashed. The sticks went from moist'ish' and fresh to dry and crunchy on touch. I couldn't figure it out. I was using Xicar beads as I always had. The temps were consistent. The cigar count was always about the same. What changed? Well the local cigar store sold me "the same thing" as Xikar solution to use with my Xicar beads. Unfortunately, the solution IS NOT the same. Really, it took me a year to figure it out.Xicar beads are to be used with their solution. Period. I replaced the beads and bought the original solution to start over. Within a month the cigars were recovering nicely. Within two months, they were smokable. After three they are in excellent shape and you wouldn't have known that they were on the verge of being tossed. I attribute their recovery to Xicar beads and solution. Thank you Xicar.

I ordered two jars as a package deal. One was 4oz and the other 2oz. Both came with a few gels in each and when I added the solution they barely expanded to cover the bottom. Very disappointed

When product arrived the gel was spilled all over the package. I had to wipe down the jar and salvage what gel I could from the envelope. I would hope this company eventually learns a envelope with a little bubble wrap doesnt protect something fkying on an airplane. Use a box! Other than that the product works fine.

I've been using this type of humidity beads for several years now. They're easy to use, only have to be filled once a month or so depending on the temperature and humidity inside your home. They're easier to use than the old foam humidifiers and with the PG solution you don't have to worry much about mold. So it's a win win and my cigars thank you. Just an FYI, pay more attention to your cigars and less to your hygrometer. As a rule of thumb, the higher the temp, the less humidity you'll need and just the opposite for when it's cold 😉
