Truly amazing knife in the right hands.
A lot of reviews had said they had troubles with the assisted opening mechanism, which troubled my decision with my purchase at first... but I figured what the problem everyone was having and ordered it; none of which is a problem with the knife.CRKT is quality built knives and I had my M16 for years until I finally lost it in Tahoe and ordered this one. I was excited today when it finally came and just to my sarcastic surprise, it works amazingly. Very solid, sturdy, and FAST opening. I immediately love this knife. Quality AUS 8 steel, razor sharp edge, pin-sharp point, and a beautiful gentlemen knife in all I think. The blade and knife are designed for one thing and one thing only: combat. The only work this knife should be doing is protecting yourself, and it has the capabilities and qualities to do just that very effectively in the right hands.**As for the assisted opening**: there are no problems with this mechanism, the reason people have problem is because they are trying to open it incorrectly or like a traditional knife. It works differently for a reason, that reason being so it doesn't swing open in your pocket and slash you open. You aren't supposed to try to push the blade up from the handle, you're supposed to push it forward towards the direction it comes out. Almost as if this knife was an OTF (out the front) you push the knob on the blade forward. If this still confuses you, look at the way the handle curves in towards the little knob. It goes a littles forward, use your thumb to follow that exact path and you can wedge the blade out nicely. But the proper way is to take you thumb and push the knob in the direction the blade will point; forward.Hope that helps people (also the book that comes with the knife has an illustration); and once again would just like to say this knife is amazing. Love CRKT, never had a problem with their knives apart from losing them, lifetime customer right here.

This is actually a fighting knife
The reason I say that, is the market is flooded with so-called "tactical" knives of dubious value. In fact, there are $400.00 knives out there that can't hold a candle to this blade. James has done his homework here. By researching classic combat blade designs, he has designed his own knives that actually work for the intended purpose, as opposed to giving you style points with all your buddies. I know this sounds harsh, but it's absolutely true. This particular knife was designed to stab very efficiently, and also be able to slash well. As simple as that sounds, a lot of modern knife designs have lost sight of those simple facts. When you add in the price point, this is absolutely a no-brainer. You can afford to have several of these blades as back-ups, as opposed to one semi-custom knife. In essence, this knife was designed to fight with, period. It's not for every day utility use. It's not "tacti-cool" to impress your friends. What it's for is to stop someone who is trying to kill you. It's like the planets are all in alignment here. A knife that actually works, for it's intended purpose, and is priced at a point where you can actually afford it, and is readily available. It doesn't get any better than this.Update. After carrying this knife for months, I like it more than ever. Some have commented on the auto-assist feature. I just removed it because I like the feel of opening it myself better. With only a slight start of say 15 deg of thumb assist, the blade will flick open smartly. The perfect balance between retention, and quick deployment. After removing the "spring", and hundreds of openings, the knife smoothed out nicely. As for carry, it is big but rides well in anything from jeans to work out shorts. I have only needed to touch up the blade once, and was very impressed with the ease of sharpening, with just a simple wetstone. Can't sing the praises of this knife enough. Like I said before, it's not for a collector, or for style points; it's a serious tool for self-defense.

Super durable and very sharp.
This knife is awesome, I have been using it for a month and I love it. The spring in it is super fast and it will take some time to get used to. It has a high tension which makes it hard to open at first but after a week it will be broken in and will deploy very quickly. The edge out of the box is top notch, I have had little dulling in the month that I have owned it and I use it almost daily. The handle is very ergonomic and will fit a forward and a reverse grip without and problem. The handle is coated in a textured gripping material which makes it easier to hold with gloves on and when it is wet. The linear lock has a small pin that comes out and blocks the knife from being closed when it is deployed which makes for a very strong lock. The pocket clip can be reversed if you carry in your left pocket.Pros.1. Strong blade.2. Great texture.3. Fits hands nicely.4.Very sharp out of box.Cons.1. It will take some practice to open because the spring is very stiff.2. The pocket clip is about 1/4 in from the top of the knife so it does not go all the way down into the pocket.3. It might be too big for local laws as it is 8.75 inches when open.
