if i used these cups/discs on a hydraulic press, would they crack?

I use them in the press all the time. They work very well for that. If the knuckle is already off the car I seldom use the bolt. This is a really great kit.

Can this kit be used for removing and installing large lower control arm bushings?

Yes you can but some work required

What grade is the coupling (forcing) nut. is it fully threaded?

I am a DIYer and don't know the hardness grade of the nut but it is fully threaded. I keep mine greased and have used it four different time with no visible damage.
