The smallest plug still was too big for the Yaesu VX-2. I found the correct plug at a local electronics store, made a cable using a standard size jack and just plugged the new power supply into that.

Works and charges battery
My only issue is the short cord. But it works on the photo light I'm using, and it charges the battery when it is connected to the light.So does exactly what I needed. And I've managed with the short cord.
