Hi, two questions: can you use a cleaning solution in the water? Can you just sweep without mopping?

I've been using warm soap and water or a 1 to 3 solution of windex to water which works well. Yes you can sweep without mopping. You just remove the mopping attachment entirely. It will only go over the non carpet areas with the mopping attachment connected.

Can a cleaning solution be used instead of water for the mopping function

From the manufacturer website: Next, fill up the water tank with water. And please don't use anything but water - cleaning fluid or wax can eventually gum up the water emitting nozzles.

can you use this without installing the app

Yes you can but I'm not sure why you would buy this if you didnt want to use it with the app. In my opinion you could get a much simpler machine if all you wanted was to walk over and hit the button to start an auto clean. The app allows you to schedule cleanings, do a "custom area" clean, clean a specific room, change the suction, utilize barrier and no clean areas, and track the device as it cleans an get alerts if it has an issue like it caught a phone chrger cord that was left on the floor.

Does it return to the docking station for charging on its own?

Yes but if it’s far from the charging station it struggles to get back
