Gripping story about the Warsaw ghetto and the people of Warsaw during World War II
I highly recommend The Warsaw Orphan to readers. It focuses on the Warsaw Ghetto during World War II, and on those who lived in the ghetto and those on the other side of the wall. It has two primary characters, Emilia, a young girl who lives outside the ghetto, and Roman, a young man inside the ghetto. Their stories show the complexity of emotions and actions and the way those can change over time as the Nazis increase their stranglehold on the Jews in the ghetto and the Polish citizens. The Warsaw Orphan is a testament to the will to fight injustice at any cost, and the risks people will take to be free. It also shows how people can have a deaf ear to the injustices around them and despite situations to the contrary, believe things will get better. There are many situations, thoughts, and conversations in the story that are food for thought - what would I do in a similar situation? how would I react? would I fight or would I go about my normal routine ignoring what was happening around me?This is an important book to read and to get an understanding of what life was like for Polish citizens and Jews during World War II.

Heartbreaking Yet Wonderful
WW2 historical fiction is one of my favorite genres and this book did not disappoint. I had not read a lot about the Warsaw ghetto and how it inspired the Warsaw Uprising. The storyline was wonderful and so heartbreaking. I was so sad for Roman and everything that happened to him. It felt wrong that so much was untold but it was clearly how it felt for so many during this time I understand why it was written like this. Emelia’s story is equally heartbreaking and so infuriating. I’d never read about that happened to Poland after the Russians came. So tragic. I will think of Emelia and Roman often.

Drawn Out
I felt the story started out strong and then slowed down, and it became repetitive and predictable. I gave it 3 stars because I enjoyed the overall story, just not the way it unfolded.

An Excellent Story with Wonderful Characters
Beautiful, courageous, and yet horrific, and painful portrayal of life in Warsaw during the German occupation. The story of two young people and their families. The struggles they face and the bond that holds them together. I could not put it down once I started reading it.

Wonderful
My favorite genre is WW II historical fiction. Kelly Rimmer has done a marvelous job with The Warsaw Orphan. It is a tough read, not in the writing, but in the difficulties the characters endured. I don’t think enough of us have any idea what really transpired in Poland. Thank you Ms. Rimmer for bringing the suffering of the Polish people to light.
