Can you sew this on a crocheted item with a sewing machine

You probably could, but it's NOT advisable. Crocheted items are usually a very loose weave & sewing machine stiches are very small & tight. The two do not mix well. Hand-sewing is a much better solution. I would also suggest, if the crocheted item is going to be worn outside of the home, using a "frog" oriental closure, also. (Google it. Looks a little like a "fleur de lis") using it over & on top of the Velcro, to enhance the appearance of the item.
