Taste and quality
The RECAPS Stainless Steel Refillable Capsules Reusable Pods was the best investment ever! I had bought another reusable plastic brand pod which was 6 pods total that had the flip top...but I was not totally sold on it with how it brewed my espresso and how it tasted.I saw this steel set 3 pods with adhesive caps and thought it was a bit too much for its price, but I read mix reviews, so I figured to give it a try. I bought the set late June 2018 and I continue to use it today and I am very pleased with it. Because I can use my own espresso Cafe Bustelo, Illy or make my own espresso mix. I love the look, smell and the taste of my espresso. I can confirm that the pod gives off the crema expected from the Nespresso machine with this Stainless Steel Refillable Capsules - I haven't tried with the regular coffee grind. What comes in the set.About (120? )Paper sleeves have 6 adhesive caps, heavy duty tamper, brush, 3 extra pod gasket, 3 steel pods.Pros: Crema, taste, cost-effective in the long run, mix your own coffee grind or espresso, easy to wash.Downside: Cleaning out the grinds (this is expected for reusables!). be mindful when you need to reorder caps before you run out(not sure how much to replenish the caps are. I still have a lot of caps to get through.Well worth the purchase versus to the the plastic or the nespresso capsule option.

Not quite a Nespresso quality but close!
This makes good espresso for cheap and environment friendly. Perfect for my morning latte, ok for an espresso shot.Make sure it’s compatible with your machine. It works great with my Essenza but I know some for whom it’s damaged the puncture spikes inside.Fill with ground coffee labelled specifically as "fine" or for espresso, not for drip coffee. I recommend the Illy classic or Lavazza. I tried with my own whole beans but my grinder makes ground not fine enough and not consistent in size.Don't tamper the coffee or just lightly rest the tamper on top or the coffee won't brew. You can also tap the pod on the table like a tequila shot and that will be enough. The downsides are that it is not fully reusable as you need a new aluminum lid for each brew, and the elastic bands seals keep breaking and I can't find replacement ones from Recap. They are necessary or the water pressure doesn't build up and it leaks.

pods leak 70% of water, producing weak coffee
The media could not be loaded. I use a very good grinder (Krups) and grind the Lavazza beans till I have a nice fine powder. I fill it per the instructions, I even played around with it, 1/2 full, 3/4 full and 100% full. No matter what I do, more than 1/2 the coffee (water) ends up in the tray that is meant to catch the caps when you lift the handle. At first I thought my Nespresso machine was broken and leaked water all over the counter top, until I realized the reason why I am getting so little pour into my cup was because more than 1/2 the water never made it into the cup but in stead ended up in the tray. In my opinion this is because of bad design or bad manufacturing. They must know this because why else would they provide two different type (color) rubber bands that you have to place around the capsule to prevent it from leaking water. They must have had many complaints about this and their solution is to add a rubber band - which for the record does not work. Watch my video which I have attached. I mean really, why can a company such as Lavazza manufacture a plastic capsule that works beautiful and never leaks, but this stainless steel cap leaks! Unacceptable. The leaking has nothing to do with how fine your coffee is grinded or how full you fill the cap, it is just plain bad design or manufacturing. If caps typically leak and need rubber bands to stop them from leaking all caps, no matter the manufacturer would have had the same problem.

This review has several tips for a good little cuppa using your RECAPS!
The media could not be loaded. I'm extremely happy with the RECAPS! I make at least 5 espressos each morning, so I've gotten really good at it. Here are some tips for perfecting your perk:1. Understand that tamping pressure, grind, water reservoir level, and repeated use will all need consideration each time you prep your RECAP.2. Shake your bag or canister to ensure your espresso grind is light and evenly disbursed before you scoop.3. For Illy brand and other superfine espresso grinds in canisters - Try to fill the RECAP over the canister so overflow just falls back down - no waste. When you finish filling the capsule, lightly shake it back and forth so that you get the grinds level with the top of the capsule and preferable filled just under the rim.4. Tamp very lightly. Don't let it fall full weight on the grinds. Tamp just until you feel light resistance from the grinds. You should have at least 1/8 inch clearance.5. Place the sticker lid CAREFULLY and press down along the rim so there is no gap in adhesive.6. Make sure your rubber seal gasket is in good shape - make sure it's not rolled or crimped at all; no tears and not very discolored indicating age and need of replacement.7. Pop it in, press the button, and enjoy the results! Remember you may need to make some adjustments to perfect your perk! You will learn the right feel of the tamp, the sticker placement, etc.8. I just rinse the capsules to clean as I've learned from other devices that dish soap can affect the taste of your coffee.9. So far, I've had great results with Illy Classico Espresso grind (fine grind), and CASK Espresso grind (not as fine, a little more grainy). And I use just regular city tap water with the standard chlorine flavor.Enjoy your little cuppa perk!!
