No, you do not plug it in. You place it over a gas or electric stove burner. When it begins to boil (perk), you lower the heat and let it "perk" for a few minutes. The color and aroma will let you know when ready! For me, It's the best tasting coffee. I use Keurig during the week for convenience. However, you can't beat the taste of freshly permed coffee. This is the coffee maker we prefer.
