I use these to keep a shelf from just dropping down uncontrollably. They slow the decent. Depending on how much weight you're dealing with, most of the time you can use just one. More weight, use two.

Is there a stronger version of this? Such as can handle 50lbs each?

Most of the time I'm just dealing with less than 4 pounds. I think 50 lbs is too much for this item.
