Leadership and the One Minute Manager Paperback – 1 Mar. 2000

This is the third One Minute Manager book I recommend without hesitation. The others are the update of the original book The New One Minute Manager (The One Minute Manager) and The One Minute Manager Meets the Monkey (The One Minute Manager).The original book introduced a simple model based on management by goals/objectives. The Monkey book stops delegation going badly wrong as you try to e supportive in the wrong way. This book introduces situational leadership although it's probably more accurate to call it situational management.It encourages you to be flexible in the way you manage people based on the task/situation and the person based on their capabilities and commitments.- If someone is great at their job, sets high personal standards and there's nothing unusual about the situation, you need to get out of the way.- If the person is a novice, you need to be much more supportive. If the situation is critical as it is when a struggling company is being turned around, the need for urgent results means a more forceful style is needed.This is very much focused on the individual rather than the team. There is another One Minute Manager book for that but I don't feel it's as strong.The light story style works well and the book can be read, understood and remembered very quickly. It may give you flashbacks to when you got things wrong. That gives you even more incentive to start putting the ideas into action.About my book reviews - My goal is to help you to find the best business advice in books. This book is written in a friendly manner. Like two people having a conversation, but still with some theory. It's not even a long book so it goes quickly to the point. Took me 1h to finish it and feel like I have something to refer to in the future!!

This one’s a slow burner. I was disappointed at first as The Entrepreneur, who replaces The Young Man from The New One Minute Manager, going around talking to people in the manager’s organisation is getting a bit pedestrian. It got better a few chapters in. The short chapters help pick up the pace and make it easy to digest.There’s a fair amount of repetition from The New One Minute Manager and not all of it is remodelled for leadership.The descriptions of the four development levels and how they determine which of the four leadership styles to use is really good and the key message throughout the book. I can see myself using them, along with the six conversations, with my own teams.There is a clear difference between management and leadership. If you’ve read and mastered the practices in The New One Minute Manager, then it’s probably time to think about leadership to get better results from your team. Leadership & The One Minute Manager is a great first step.

Useful. Necessary. Good tooling for entering in people management.I strongly recommend it to every person who really want to know about what is considered as minimum to deal with people.Enjoy it.

A very good read for anyone wanting to get onto the leadership ladder or even understand the different styles of leadership and what works for them.

Helpfully set out in a story telling format. I found the book helpful to make sense of different management styles and their effectiveness on different personality types. If you're new to management, I recommend this book.
