Q: WILL IT OPERATE ON BATTERIES?

In my opinion, it doesn't operate however you may power it. It does not work to repell deer. You are better off throwing batteries at the deer.

Q: How far out, from the front face of the Deer Gard will motion, of a Deer, be sensed?

This item does not work. I watched Deer with night vision walk close to it and the light came on showing motion and the deer did not flinch - don’t wast your money

Q: Can I put this in my attic

The Deer Gard were meant to be outside in order to chase deers away from your garden or backyard. We have the Transonic Pro that we usually recommend for attics, basements and etc.

Q: How about repelling feral cats that try to live under our deck?

I don't know about cats but worked really well for deer.
