Q: will this fit a child's head, 10 year old?

If your child’s head is the size of a bowling ball, yes. Otherwise no. It’s very large.

Q: Is the material the mask is made of hard material like an actual helmet? Or is the mask material kind of flimsy?

Its rubber latex material. If the material is hard like an actual helmet it would be very uncomfortable to wear. I wold say it is definitely its better quality than a Rubie's rubber mask and has a decent chin strap compared to cheap/poorly stictched velcro. in Rubie's Cap masks. However, the fit with masks is so idiosyncratic e3pecially with these are one size fits all masks which tend to be big and naturally don't generally fit as well as something more custom or that comes in different sizes. This mask just didn't work for me b/c of my head shape which meant the chin straps didn't align with my jaw in a flattering way plus the eye positioning was uncomfortable so I returned this item.

Q: Can you shrink this in warm or hot water?

It will not. My solution included cutting out a portion of the back and resealing it with super glue to get a better fit
