Pusser's Gunpowder Proof is our go to rum when we need something bold, flavourful and full of Navy Rum tradition. Works across the board in cocktails that ask for something with a little more punch but equally works with simple mixers and even with a few ice cubes

I'd been drinking Pusser's for years (sparingly, of course) but I'd never tried the Gunpowder, partly because I tend to shy away from high proofs. I have to say it was stunning. I had to dilute it with ice and soda, being a wimp, but the flavour was spectacular – liquorice toffee at first, then all the vanilla and raisin-like notes. Just delicious. It also makes a very assertive rum and coke, and worked surprisingly well with Japanese melon soda. I think this might be my go-to rum in future. I like it so much that it's been granted residence in my Pusser's limited edition ceramic decanter, out of respect.

Great rum bought many bottles, apopper navy rum.

In my case, this was purchased to make rumtopf (and maybe for a little sip, too). But I've since realised that one bottle is not going to be enough, and for something basically being used to preserve fruit, that makes it a bit on the expensive side. That said, there is far more expensive stuff out there, too. So, good stuff, but probably best used for sipping and cocktails.

In my view the best of its kind, so much better than standard Pussers, gun powder proof definitely worth checking out.
