I want to use earphones on a plane, where the noise is very loud and regular headphones are inadequate. Will these be better?

As other respondents have said, these are not the type of earphones that will block airplane noise. And there's another reason, they may not be a good choice for use on an airplane: there is some some sound leakage out of the 'phones, which may annoy people next to you, especially if you crank up your listening volume trying to drown out the airplane noise. A good pair of in-ear phones work for me. Koss has a few models that you may want to consider. With Koss, you can be sure you'll get good sound, good value, and an unbeatable warranty.

Do these go over the top of your head or around the back? I am looking for something that goes around the back...open to suggestions. Thanks!

They go over top of the head, but they are very lightweight and comfortable. I switched to these from some sony behind the head phones... I dont mind the change at all.

Does this come with the lifetime warranty?

They do, but depending on the model, shipping can be prohibitive. If you had a pair any cheaper than the porta pro's, it would not be worth it to send in for warranty. They charge $9 for return shipping and handling, plus whatever it costs you to ship the item to koss. You're looking at roughly $18 to ship this $40 pair of headphones in for warranty. Something like the sportapro's or the ktx1pro's would not be worth sending in.

Does it come with volume control? if not, what should i get if needed?

You also can buy a Koss VC20 volume control for under $10, which is a simple volume control that can clip onto your pocket or belt, if you like, and also serves as an extension cord. The KTCs have built-in remote as well as volume controls on the cord itself and are designed primarily for use with iPads, iPods, and iPhones. Hope that helps.
