Diversity Matters: Understanding Diversity in Schools (What’s New in Education) 2nd Edition

This is one of the BEST books I have purchased and read in a long time. The relevancy, the connections, the thought-provoking activities, and suggestions are top-notch. Oh, did I mention it's an easy read? This book is awesome! it is a must-buy!

This book does not provide positive instruction on how to consider and approach culturally diverse students but was overall negative toward those in the education system and victimized everyone except for white males. If this were the only book I had on the education system, I would not want to pursue teaching as it portrays teachers as biased and uncaring for students. I thought the book was leftist political propaganda and an attack on Christianity more than it was educational. I wish the text could have explained cultural diversity in a more positive light and have more practical advice on reaching those from different cultures rather than shaming teachers and people in dominant culture. Although I did have some take aways and hope I will remember some ideas such as assessing my own biases, I would never recommend this book. In fact, it is concerning to me that others may be influenced in such negative ways by this type of curriculum.I think this statement on page 12 sums up what I mean about overall negativity toward teachers and administrators found in the text:"Schools have worked to disadvantage boys...and girls...leaving both groups worse off than they were before they entered school"It also pointedly attacks Christianity with total bias when discussing women, homosexuality and gender.

The content of the book is good, but there are biases from the author against the "dominant culture." It is easy to follow and good for diversity. My only qualms is how biased the author is against others.

I did not get a chance to use the book because I had to drop the class due to my work schedule conflicted with the class times.

Rented this for my esol class. Has some wear and tear but that's what I like about books. Great content!

Wish it had a glossary in the back. Kinda hard for tests for classes when you cannot find the word you are looking for.

Textbook is in excellent condition. The content among chapters is very repetitive and dry when relating to different cultures.
