I thought this fitting is only labeled for inside use? If so how can it be used for portable generators which can never be used inside.

That bothered me too. I'm punting, though - one is installed right inside my garage door for use with my generator during shorter outages, where hose and power cords would just go under the door. A second will be outside on my patio next to a 3/8 inch one for my gas grill, for use if I ever have another Sandy-style 8 day outage and won't want to leave the genny near the street all the time. But I'll leave the spot for the patio job capped until if/when I actually need it.

Stupid question: this will work with gas station gasoline? Rigging an auxillary gasoline tank in my pickup. Or just use water hose fittings?

This is for natural gas not gasoline.

Is this a proprietary or a standard fitting ?

the quick connect i believe its propietary but the other side its standard 3/4 NPT
