Is it a hand guard or proper chain brake that will activate an internal brake? Thanks

The hand guard is just that. However, to activate the saw you have to press and hold a button before pulling the trigger. Releasing the button for any reason cuts power to the saw and applies an internal brake

We have the Bosch 36v battery would it be compatible with this?

As such your existing battery would be compatible with any DIY & Garden (green) 36V tools and the UniversalChain 18 would be compatible with any of our PBA/Power4All 18V batteries.
