BioBag Kitchen Counter Food Scrap Bin and Compostable Bag Kit

This is the best countertop compost bin out there, we've tried so many! This bin has excellent circulation, without which the bins always get stinky. This bin stays stinky free, unless we've left it too full for too long and its starting to mold. For two of us, we take it out once a week on average. When there were three of us, it was about every five days. This updated model also has a locking handle, so when you are carrying it out to the outside bin, it locks the lid on for no spills. It also has "channels" in the bottom, so that the bag sits up above any fluid if it gets a leak, and the edges are about 1.5 centimeters above the very bottom, so that fluid won't run out on the counter. It will leak if there is a lot of VERY wet and gooshy things in it for a long time - more than four or five days I find. But that is the point of a compostable bag - if it didn't start breaking down when it was warm and wet, it wouldn't be a compostable bag! We have coffee at least once a day, sometimes twice. That all goes in the bin, along with leftovers, scraps, and scary-things-going-bad-in-the-fridge. We don't have a problem in the week it is sitting on the counter, unless I also put in actual liquid. Just regular wet grounds are fine. It also is somewhat thin, but it is plenty strong. Our last version of this bin lasted for nearly ten years, and we only ordered a new one because my father in law accidentally threw out the mesh covering for the bottom - something the new one doesn't have at all, since they improved the design. Great bin, that will last for years and years!I will add that I was happy that this was clearly the original, correct product. All the instructions that came with it were in clear english. Unfortunately, there appears to be a huge influx of cheap knockoffs flooding Amazon, along with a lot of fake reviews (search for Fake Amazon reviews, or for cheap knockoffs Amazon, then select the news results, to see a ton of articles about this), so I am actually moving away from using Amazon any more, which is really disappointing, since I've loved using them for years.

In terms of storage of compost in my home, this gets 5 stars. It keeps it well-ventilated so that the bag doesn't get soggy like my old enclosed one with ventilation holes, and it is a good size for the standard compost bags.The handle is poorly designed. I wouldn't trust it to not fall off if I carried the compost anywhere in the container. When you pull it up it's supposed to "lock" the lid down, but it ends up only doing it on one side, and feels really flimsy. Thankfully I don't need to carry it anywhere on its own (I take the interior bags only). There also should be some way to "pin down" the compost bag. Because of where the back of the lid attaches, there is not much room to fold over the bag in the bag, and it often slides down. The standard BioBags for compost bins are a little wide for the top of this bin, and really needs a way to attach it.For practical use I think it's one of the best bins, but could be be better designed.

Have used a similar compost bin for several years. Didn't pack it when moving across country; big mistake. I have been looking for a counter top compost bin like this for a few years. Didn't think it would be so hard to find a replacement bin. Tried a closed bin for a few months and finally stopped composting. So glad to find this kitchen compost bin.This bin allows air to dry out whatever is put into the bag lined bin. Veggie peals and trimmings do not start composting/molding as soon as they go into the bin. The bag stays dryer, which reduces the biodegradable bag from deteriorating, before it is taken out. This counter top compost bin makes composting easy. Will not be leaving this compost bin behind the next time I move.

You'll like this food waste container because, you can scrap your plates with one hand, flip it open, scrap your plate & flip it closed! It's just the right size for your kitchen counter & I love that the lid is attached to the container so it always stays closed! I've recommended it to all my friends!

I love that this compost bin allows for ventilation, it really helps reduce odors that form in the bins that are closed on the bottom and sides even if they vent on top. As long as you can bring your compost to a facility the bags are fine to keep with the compost, so you don't even have to empty the bag! The one thing that I think could possibly be improved is that fruit flies can get in and out of the bin, so this time of year I've been folding the bag over the top to prevent flies access to the compost and that reduces some of the ventilation.

Granted, we are in the winter when bugs aren't as abundant but we've been using it for a month or so and its been great! The container is big and holds a lot. The ability to compost the whole thing is amazing!

It's a night-and-day difference between this product and the non-vented countertop compost bin that I used to have. This one doesn't smell at all and stays clean. I empty it once per week.

The shape and design are perfect to hold BioBag composting bags. The handle is a little tricky to get opened and closed. Mine arrived with one side unattached so that I had to take it apart to be able to open the bin. It functions just fine now.
