Fascinating booklet, and a must have if you fancy trying to make a genuinely vintage looking 20s dress. The instructions are actually very simple, but you just need to keep your wits about you and follow all the measurements they instruct you to make. I managed to make a wearable dress first run through the process. Okay, it took me 2 hours not 1, wouldn't blame the method, I was just learning! Definetley plan to make more dresses - the booklet even shows how to make variations on the basic pattern.

Not at all what I expected, maybe I didn’t read the description properly. Didn’t need a book to tell me what was in this one.

A bit disappointed in the size of the "book".

This brochure from the 1920s has been available for download free over the internet for many years. I downloaded it over 15 years ago as I love 1920s fashion but I could not make head nor tail of the instructions, however I'm a beginner. Women in those days were obviously expected to be much more accomplished at sewing and it was not expected that they needed detailed instructions or diagrams. If you are new to sewing, don't be swayed by the one hour thing, you will still be wondering how to cut it out or how to calculate how much you need after an hour. I'd recommend buying a tanktop or tshirt pattern, making it a bit longer and adding a simple gathered skirt or looking for a regular pattern similar in style to these.Do an online search, see if you can find the original brochure and check you can follow the instructions before buying this book if you want a printed version. Also keep in mind : the variations they mention will be drawings to inspire you but no actual instructions on how to make the variations. It would have been nice if the reprint also included an update with sewing instructions, diagrams and fabric requirements, as well as how to make the variations.
