Does the mahogany make it sound better over the cheaper rubberwood one?

Absolutely! I get great lows and nice snare slaps from the mahogany. There's nothing like the real wood feel.

The photos show two different colors on the front. the description says "stained american white ash." is the front a darker stain or a lighter stain?
