I've had a Forster case trimmer for over 40 years, and it still works great, but it is definitely a little harder to set up than this Redding case trimmer! I still use the Forster, but it's now dedicated just for 300 Win mag so I don't have to keep changing the setup on it.Since purchasing this Redding trimmer, I have used it for 220 Swift, up to 338 Lapua Magnum, and I couldn't be happier with the ease in which I can change cartridge dimensions and get them right the first time! So happy I bought this!

Not going to be your friend.
I sent this back due to it being defective from factory.and after getting a chance to use it once I realize I'm glad its gone!it would've ended up a paper weight.I bought the other green trimmer and it is so so so much better , in so many many ways.

An excellent case trimmer worth the premium over the others
I took a bit of a gamble buying this, the most expensive hand-operated case trimmer out there, both for the price of the trimmer itself, and because I bought the RCBS 3-way cutter that trims/chamfers/deburrs all in one shot even though I was unsure about whether the cutter would fit the Redding trimmer.Well, right out the gate, I'm happy to report that the RCBS 3-way cutter does indeed screw right in and works exactly as designed, so anyone wanting to add this very worthy upgrade to the Redding 1400 or 2400 trimmers can rest assured that you're good to go.As for the reasons why I bought this trimmer over the less expensive RCBS, Lyman, and Forster case trimmers, it was because the distance that the end that rotates (the case holder collet end) is much shorter than it is with those three trimmers, making the Redding and Hornady trimmers much better choices while using the power screwdriver adapters because there is considerably greater stability because of the designs of Redding and Hornady shafts. The Hornady trimmer costs not even half what the Redding 2400 does, but there were two additional factors that gave the nod for the Redding:1) The really handy and precise micrometer adjustment to make case length adjustments so much easier to get dialed in and locked down2) The fact that the Redding 1400/2400 trimmers are the only ones on the market that rotate the case instead of the cutter, just as a machining lathe always rotates the workpiece instead of the cutting tools used to machine the workpiece, a feature that should (at least in theory) allow for a more uniform and accurate trim on each caseI've already trimmed over 100 cases with my new Redding, and I have since then added one more modification, a really nice 3D-printed tray that attaches to the base of the trimmer under the cutter via rare earth magnets to catch the brass shavings that trimming creates, which makes cleanup considerably easier once I finish a batch of cases.Something important to say about this trimmer or any other trimmer that uses pilots to keep the case properly centered with the cutter is that the case mouth needs to be slipped over the cutter, then the case head securing system needs to be moved up to the case head and locked down after that, before trimming is started. For anyone wanting to see how to do it right with any of this basic type (using pilots, meaning all hand trimmers that are not the L.E. Wilson) of trimmer, there are several good videos on YouTube that show exactly how to do it right.Getting back to the excellent RCBS 3-way cutter, I have to say that is one of the best innovations I've seen since I started reloading over thirty years ago, and once it gets adjusted properly (it's important to do that before just trimming willy-nilly), you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.The only drawback that I can imagine with the 3-way cutter is that it is a bit longer than the conventional cutter, about 1/2" more, so it would limit the length of brass that it can be used with over the conventional cutter by that extra length.I can say, however, that I have plenty of room to trim .30-06 brass, and I'm almost certain that the medium length magnum cartridges such as .300 Winchester would still fit, but I'm very doubtful about such monster rounds as the .30-378, .378, and .460 Weatherby magnum cartridges.Of course, if you have a case too long while using the RCBS cutter, just unscrew it and replace it with the stock Redding cutter, which still does an excellent job, necessitating that you do the essential chamfer/deburr in a separate step, of course. In terms of ease of use, the quick engage/disengage functionality for the case head collet is another major point in favor of this trimmer, and the quality of the trims is very nice and consistent, with only a thousand or two of variation for each case length once dialed in and locked down at the micrometer end.One small upgrade that strongly advise for all reloaders is to get the power screwdriver adapter that Redding also sells that works with both this (the model 2400) and Redding's less expensive case trimmer, the model 1400.That adapter will make it considerably easier on you, especially when trimming more than a dozen or so cases at at time, but please be sure to use only one of the lower RPM power screwdrivers instead of a power drill.Using a power drill runs the very real risk of overpowering the trimmer, possibly breaking it.I have used this adapter to trim hundreds of cases already, and I don't hesitate to say that anyone who buys this trimmer should also get it.

Sorry I bought it
Very difficult to use. I am sorry I bought this trimmer. Very difficult to get the chuck to grab the brass consistently. There are better trimmers out there.
