I'm not sure how successful you will be planing across the door at the hinge end. It would work better if you had enough room to plane along the full length of the door.

Yes, do it!!! You will have the most unique hardwood floor of all time. Has anyone used this for leather? I want to thin out a leather some leather for a belt.

A skife would work better. It is designed for that. The angles on the blade will not work on leather. If you have a belt sander it will work fairly well but watch fingers.
