Believe the hype
I picked up this dresser from the 1970s that had the perfect silhouette I wanted but frankly; I thought it was hideous. It is mostly solid wood but the top was a cheap laminate overlay. I wanted it to match a bed I already owned and had seen this product previously so decided to go for it. I’m pretty experienced with furniture refinishing / upcycling and I’d say I’m advanced with staining and painting. With that in mind, the photos say the rest. It came out absolutely beautiful. I had my doubts but yeah, you can see for yourself. This is the dark walnut with three coats of Varathane poly. I was super concerned about wear but my 80 lb dog put his paws/claws up on it and didn’t leave a single scratch. I couldn’t be happier with the result and wouldn’t hesitate to use it again! I would caution a novice. Take your time, practice and watch the videos / instructions. Even for someone experienced it was a little tricky to get it “just so” (and realistic) but well worth the effort!

Worked time and again!
We put liquid wood and then it beautifully picked up the espresso colored poly stain that we put on afterwards. We repeated steps on every single door in our house. Now it looks like we bought installed modern solid wood doors instead of the cheap hollow standard doors that were the norm back in the 70s. Completely satisfied with the outcome. Product is extremely easy to work with too

Wow! So interesting
Not too much of a learning curve. Covered furniture and stained it after, looks amazing. After doing dining room ordered more and went to a bedroom. The jar doesn’t last very long , it’s not huge. Holds up well as long as you put many coats of sealer on after.

Learning curve: save yourself and read this first
Product has a learning curve. It’s verrrryyyy thin, and the edges must not have too much product or it is failure (see pic). I’d recommend several coats BEFORE the final coat with the wood grain tool to get the stain to take, and it does not take well!!!! Gel was a disaster and I strongly encourage you not go that route. It entirely covered my grain and I had to sand and entirely start over. Penetrating stain worked much better, but it was light. Several coats were required. I will say, it does look like wood. But I ended up having to start over two times between the edges looking low quality and the gel stain. In the first coats, long, smooth brush strokes. The final application where you use the wood grain tool, I would apply the product with a brush starting in the middle and and going out. When you use the wood grain tool, use long strokes as straight as possible. The wood grain tool creates grain anyway so it isn’t necessary to have the long strokes suggested, and it was a big mistake in my world. But the product itself is pretty amazing. It does look just like Wood. I was impressed. Wish it was thicker, but honestly it’s amazing what it did to particleboard.

Amazing Results!!!
The media could not be loaded. Was hesitant to try this but I have done 2 projects already & I love the way it turned out. The window sill was white pvc board in my sunroom window. I painted it with a few coats of the wood paint, stained it using the graining tools & sealed it with a clear coat. The 2nd project was an ikea shelf I made into a drawer top for some built ins I’m doing in the bedroom!! It was actually my practice piece that started on & I loved the results so much I went bigger! The staining does take a little practice if you want the wood grain look so just practice on some scrap board to achieve your favorite results. I used a water based stain in American walnut. Water based is also so much easier to work with and to build the color to desired result. All in all, the Retique it wood paint 100% makes a surface feel like real wood and allows you to stain it just like wood. I’m super impressed & happy I tried it!! PS, use a primer paint if trying to use on a slicker surface, like a laminate. To prevent chipping of paint.

Different colors each order.
UPDATED REVIEW: 10/28/22-UPDATE:::: I am VERY upset. I ordered the “light wood” over summer (June maybe) and it turned out beautifully. Very light colored natural white oak. I did my whole kitchen, as well as started my daughter’s bathroom. We’ll fast forward to me finishing up my daughters bathroom, I ordered more “light wood” IT IS SO DARK. And grey. It’s not a huge deal for little projects like this. But the stuff is expensive and if you plan on reordering, just know it may not be the same 2 colors. *see last image* the color on the right is the original color I got, on the left is the newest “light wood” I ordered. DISAPPOINTED.Original review: We bought an old farm house earlier this year, with plans to fully renovate on a budget.. getting new cabinet was not in the budget! I didn’t know where to start with getting these old red/orange undertone cabinets to the light white oak color I wanted.Retique it!!!!!!!! I will say, the product STINKS. Bad. Like being in a field of cow paddies. But it WORKS!! I also think, because you need a wood graining tool to use the product they should send one but just an opinion.

Fixed My Bad Stain Job
We used Douglas Fir to make a wood slat wall, but I was not loving the pinkish-orange tones of the wood. I tried multiple stains & methods to fix it, but after hours & hours, it looked blotchy & awful and still had the pink/orange tones. I finally found this product and decided to give it a try. It was the only thing that worked at covering up the blotchy stain and the orange. I ended up not staining over the primer as I liked it better without it.If you ever make the mistake of staining something too dark, you now have another option besides sanding & starting over. Or if you simply want to stain an existing piece of furniture a lighter color. Im now thinking of using this on a rolltop desk that l'd like to stain a lighter color. It would be really hard to thoroughly sand the rolltop part so I think this would be a great alternative. It was a good consistency for painting, easy to apply, and had good coverage. I'm a happy customer.

Amazing product but cost prohibitive
I tried out this product (8oz light wood) to repair and refinish a wood dresser top with veneer and deep scratches. It really is amazing product. Super easy to use and takes stain perfectly. I had a tiny bit leftover and actually wood coated a dollar store plastic clock and it looks amazing now.The only thing keeping me from ordering more is the cost in Canada, once product and shipping combined it's insanely expensive for Canadian shoppers. If you are fortunate to be able to access US shopping across the border it's $19.88 USD for the small can, I paid over $60 for the same size can here in Canada. Hoping to see some sort of Canadian distributor one day as I would definitely recommend this product, and in all fairness it was definitely worth the $60+ bucks to restore my damaged dresser.

Apparence réelle du bois
Nous avons rénover un escalier en tapis et bois mdr au lieu de remplacer les planches au cout de 6000 $. Excellent résultat.

Great product - worth the wait
It took a little while to get here but I think it will be worth it. I ended up getting the lighter color, more for being able to stain it whatever color I would like.
