Cute, loud bells
Love the tone of bells. Loud so you think it’ll work. Never saw bears so maybe they do.

Beautiful quality
We've recently moved to the mountains and I walk my dog a lot, sondtimes when it's dark in the a.m. and p.m. My neighbors said to get a bell and/or whistle because "bears don't like to be surprised". I don't want you be surprised by a bear...so I've armed myself with this purchase. I must say the quality of the bell and whistle is excellent. The pieces are weighty ( not heavy) and the finish looks expensive. They come with a convenient caribiner- like ring to hook them into a belt loop or fanny pack. The bell sound is very Zen,cand the even whistle is a nice sound ...not ear- splitting. I have only carried it for a few nights so I can't really say yet if it works...but as long as I don't see bears I'll be glad to give the credit to this duo. Nice purchase.

Bells weigh 2 1/8 ounces ( 60 grams ) each, but wow are they beautiful
5 stars for very nice bells, 2 stars for backpacker usage. Bells are too heavy for backpacking, but great for short hikes, bikes, base camp & very nice decorations. These bells have a nice clear/crisp sound, and a nice hefty weight (2 1/2 ounces) for their size (not exactly backpacker friendly). They are beautiful, and I will be getting more to make into a Christmas decoration.however, the whistles that came with my bells are more like a dog whistle. Not much noise for the human ear to hear, though so probably the same effect for a bear as a dog perhaps?I definitely didn't use it for our backpacking trip.

A pleasant ring that doesn't get annoying over time
I purchased this bear bell to install on the handlebars of my mountain bike after a surprise encounter with a sow black bear and her cub while mountain biking one morning. The bike allows me to cover a lot of ground quickly and, apparently, quietly. I had a rattle on my bike and I pulled off on a short, dead-end spur trail to investigate and fix the cause. Not long after I dismounted the mama bear came charging over a nearby knoll in my direction and stopped. She must've been feasting on the ripening wild blackberries in the clearcut I was in. Then I heard a noise over my left shoulder and I turned and saw a bear cub skidding down a fir tree. I suddenly realized I was right in the middle. Thankfully when the cub reached the ground it ran off into the woods, followed several agonizing seconds later by the mama bear. I'm hoping it was just a one-in-a-million encounter, but I installed this bear bell on my bike to, hopefully, avoid any more bear encounters. It rings constantly when I hit bumps along the dirt trails. It has a pleasant sound that doesn't get annoying.

Bell is okay, the whistle fell ring was not sturdy and fell off.
The bear bell was loud and clear and worth it. However, I wasnt happy with the whistle. The ring for the whistle wasnt sturdy, and I didnt even realize when it fell during the hike.

Bear Safety!!
Just started hiking this summer. found out that most attacks are from a bear being caught off guard by people walking up on them. The bells allow the bear to hear and know something is nearby and make a call to leave the area. I didn't think I wanted to wear bells for every hike until we saw a 700lbs black bear cross over a trail. Bells it is!!
