Does this allow for more players?

No. It adds New elements to the existing game. New game variations. These variations can be used with the originalngame alone, or in combination with the other variations included. Two expansion packs like this exist. Both are great!

Do i need to buy the original version of the resistance in addition to hidden agenda in order to play?

Hidden Agenda is an expansion. You need the base game in order to play.

For anyone who has bought this and the base game (2nd or 3rd edition) is there still the issue of the backs having darker colors? (2019/2020)

No, I haven't seen that issue in my set.

Can this expansion be used with Avalon?

Because Resistance & Avalon are the same game just with different flavor I'm sure you could make it work.It might be kind of funny.AMA
