The 7” grinder is a versatile and powerful tool
The 7” grinder is a versatile and powerful tool that has greatly exceeded my expectations. Its robust construction and durability make it suitable for both professional and DIY projects. The powerful motor ensures smooth and precise cutting, grinding, and polishing of various materials, including metal, stone, and concrete.I particularly appreciate the ergonomic design and additional features such as adjustable handle positions and tool-free guard adjustments, which enhance user comfort and safety during operation. The grinder's performance is exceptional, providing consistent results even under heavy workloads.Furthermore, the tool's reliability and stability contribute to accurate and efficient work processes. The 7” grinder is also relatively lightweight and easy to handle, increasing maneuverability and reducing operator fatigue.Overall, I highly recommend the 7” grinder for its outstanding performance, versatility, and durability. Great for removing thinset on floor after SDS chisel. Dust extraction required for thinset grinding.
After removal of a tile floor through a townhome entrance, kitchen and half bathroom floor, there was a significant amount of thinset that needed to be removed in order to have a clean surface to lay new vinyl flooring down.I rented a Makita Demo Hammer and SDS chisel bit to remove the thick, majority of the thinset on the floor. It helps to keep the floor damp with the hammer/chisel to help minimize dust. After the majority of the thinset was removed with the chisel/hammer, I used this Makita Surface planer with a 7” thinset removal disc grinder. With the dust extraction shroud installed and using a Duststopper Pro connected to a Rigid shop vac, I was able to capture a lot of the dust created from the grinder, however, it is a very fine dust that gets everywhere. Using a dust extractor is pretty important in this application. An appropriate respirator must be worn when using this grinder to protect the lungs from the large amount of very fine dust created from thinset removal or other surface grinding situations. This is a great tool to have for any surface planing requirements. I see it being of great use also for floor etch preparation for epoxy, and for grinding cement down from root cracks, etc.Very heavy duty grinder by one of the best, Makita. Glad to have this tool in the tool box!

Powerful grinder. So-so dust collection
First off the grinder itself is great. Very smooth and easy to control. It ate through thinset and concrete with no bog down even in heavy areas. The safety catch required (at least for me) a little getting used to with its action to unlock the trigger and also to lock it for trigger free use. I felt it was too close to the floor for my hands to comfortably use with the grinder flat on the ground.Power usage was also good. I ran a ventilator, a dust collector and the grinder at the same time. The grinder and collector were both on the same circuit and I never popped a breaker. Now the dust collector collar installs quickly and easily. However the amount of dust it picks up...I'm really curious as to why Makita didn't make this collar a 1/2 deeper. Or allow some sort of adjustment to drop the brushes lower. Hooked to a dust collector on its own the collar spews dust and clouds the work area in seconds. I used a R***** 6.0 hp vac with a fine dust bag, fine filter, and a dust seperator if that helps knowing as well.I wound up making a gasket out of blue tape that helped a bit. You'll still need to wear a mask and I would encourage running a ventilator as well. Good grinder but definitely expect to tent off your work area in finished buildings.

Very effective tool
I must admit I was a bit scared of this tool at first. I played with it a lot without turning it on to make sure I could handle the weight. I am a 70 year old female, who is fairly strong (I can lift 50 pounds, no problem), but I respect the potential for injury using power tools. I called Makita support regarding the proper way to put a cupped wheel on the planer, as the manual had such small pictures it wasn't really helpful. I was given excellent advise and patient help. I planed the concrete floor of my bathroom and this Makita planer made quick work of it and was easy to control. The planer dust shroud coupled with a Dustopper Pro completely controlled the dust produced. That said, take seriously the caution in the manual to wear steel toed boots. A couple of times the wheel slid a bit and I could see how someone not appropriately clad could lose digits. I am very happy about my purchase after using this planer. Onward to the rest of the house!

Very good and balanced grinder
Five stars overall. I would not use anything less heavy-duty than this; heavier and stronger is worth it. Make sure you use the outer locking nut, or the heavy hubbed wheel will unwind itself and take off when you turn off the machine. One negative: the dust escapes from the gap between the front removable piece (for corners) and the remainder of the brush circle. This needs to be sealed for better dust collection; the overall design needs reworking.

value
this a heavy machine and well built. the wight with the grinding wheel is enough to grind without baring down . it is smooth running on the startups which is a blessing. the trigger lock is a little tricky other than that a great machine.
