After drawing can I spray the tattoo with hair spray to make it last longer?

The tattoo lasts longer if you use makeup setting spray. I spray mine with makeup setting spray right before I go to bed and in the morning both before and after my shower. Makeup setting spray really works. I also make sure to draw the tattoo very dark, which helps.

Why do these contain hydrochloric acid?

A small amount of hydrochloric acid is added to the tattoo marker inks to adjust the pH (neutralize the ink). You can find hydrochloric acid listed on many cosmetic products for the same reason.

Anyone have problems with the black drying out the first day using?

Same. Black and brown dried out before I finished the fingertips! So very disappointed
