The first ingredient is chicken-by-product meal (whatever that is). It is not grain-free. It contains corn meal, soy flour, and brewer's rice. Cats have no nutritional requirement for grain of any sort. They are just fillers. If you can afford it (we have 5 cats), find a grain-free product to feed your cat(s).

What's the difference saying it's for indoor cats? Same as others but saying it's different to make more money.

Indoor cats need more fiber and protein than outside cats! They don't have access to prey and things that would prevent hairballs. As for making more money...there are no preservatives so better quality ingredients are used.

Actually, chicken feet are sold for human consumption (skinned and deep-fried or used to make a very healthful broth), I use the bones from the chickens I buy for making nutritious soup, and the innards (liver, heart, etc.) are what's used for giblet stuffing and gravies. One of my sons boils down the bones until they are so soft he can blend them in a food processor and feed them to his dogs for extra minerals in their dry food. Some advertisers try to make "chicken by-product meal" sound like something atrocious so they can sell you their more expensive foods with claims of it having "whole" chicken piece in it, but the truth is that the beaks, bones, innards, and feet are loaded with vitamins and minerals and very good for pets. Even some grain in cat food isn't necessarily bad (as long as that's not the first ingredient and most of the other ingredients as well) because, even though cats are obligate carnivores, when they eat prey in the wild, they eat the entire prey, which means they also get whatever grains, seeds, and plants the prey animal has eaten.

Can I use water to soften this before feeding? I just recd a big bag that I'd ordered but my cat has developed dental issues so she needs soft food.

I'm sure that water will soften dry cat food, however the question remains, will your cat find it palatable? It seems it would be preferable during the duration of your cat's dental problems to switch to a softer canned food such as a pate which would be easier to chew. Rest assured, your dry cat food will be fresh and ready to consume whenever your cat's dental problems are alleviated.

Exellent and Immediate Appeal

Because our cats have in the past really liked other similar Purnia Cat Chow Dry Foods, I figured this one had a pretty good chance of being accepted.But MORE THAN JUST ACCEPTED, this has become a FAVORITE cat food for our little creatures.It's very easy to store in our standard cat chow bin; scoops up and pours out very easily; gives the cats a lovely eatable treat in small quantities or a full bowl waiting for their nibble attention. It's a very durable long-lasting food.I put the food on subscription figuring we'd be back, and yep: certainly we will.Perfect daily food source for the cats. Our vet suggests they have only about 4-oz daily max, each... rather than leave it around in a bowl for them to nibble on all the time. So we've cut back a bit, but definitely every time it gets low in the bowl the cats eat it to the very end, so it's clear how much they love it... No doubt there at all.

Cat ecstatic with this food

KatKat followed the package from the door and rubbing against it all the way. Had hard time putting it in bow las he was jumping on it..but not for long as he attacked it and ate it all leaving only remaining former brand untouched....today he ate it all and left the wet food untouched. HE LOVES THIS mid priced, healthy ingredient, delicious food and I highly recommend it. M cat is 7 years old and perfect for him. The bowl was empty once more today and can see that this food will be eaten quickly. Nice to know it has better ingredients and helps preventing fur balls and keeping his weight down as well .KatKat, the orange/white cat purrs thank you...

Only type I have purchased after she graduated from kitten food. It works well for hairballs.

The food quality is good. It is dry kibble, and I like that it is fresh quality. The functionality of the product helping with hairball assistance. She has been only on this brand, and never has had a hairball. The comfort and health of my cat is always something I want to keep in mind.The bag came delivered to me in perfect shape. Actually was inside a good cardboard box. I also give her wet food everyday also. She eats both.

All 4 Cats Love It

I mix this 50/50 with the Naturals original flavor because indoor formulas are often lower in calorie. I have an older medical needs cat that needs extra calories, but all 4 of my cats are all indoor only and 2 are long-haired. It is a good blend of the 2 and they are both great quality. All the cats' fur looks shinier and healthier and medical cat throws up a lot less. Definitely recommend. If you don't have a cat that requires more calories, but a chubby indoor cat or 2, then definitely get just this formula, or else blend with the same brand in another flavor.

My cats have always eaten the regular purina indoor in the darker green bag but lately, it has skyrocketed in price. This one is more affordable, arrives more quickly, and they eat it just the same.

happy healthy kitties each vet visit

this is the only dry food i feed my cats. i think it is a great food, ive had no issues with it. quality allways appears the same and good. i do store mine in a large air tight tote to keep bugs out and keep it fresh and that seems to work just perfect.
