Surprisingly Nice
I was put off by the cost of this at first. Really, that much money for a cord to extend my hot shoe? I decided I needed it and felt the positive reviews on this had to account for something. It is a surprisingly substantial device made out of high quality components. It looks pretty serious and I'm confident that it will last a long time. I've used it shooting three times. The coil doesn't offer too much resistance, the cord is long enough without being too long, and it works easily and flawlessly. I have no doubt that this will survive in the camera bag for years with constant use and it looks like it may fair well with the occasional abuse as well.I think it undoubtedly opens up several possibilities for front-fill-off-camera-flash. I am very happy with the purchase. Received on time in good packaging. - 1 star for it should come with some sort of pouch / satchel / bag for the price. I will be putting it an old lens pouch to keep the AF Illuminator from being scratched.

Be sure to get the Anti-Twist plate!
This coil is great for mounting the SB-800 on top of your Nikon with the 350 flip bracket from Tiffen. I bought both, and found that with my battery pack on the Nikon D200 it would not go full center. In other words, I could not position the SB-800 center to the camera with the Stroboframe Quick Flip 350 Flash Bracket. So I had to do two things:1) Unscrew the attachment and move it to the far right so that the flash unit was not hitting the infrared component. (Very easy to fix - I'm a novice, and if I can do it, you can, too.)2) I absolutely needed the anti twist-plate. It's essential. If you don't get it, you may as well chuck the whole 350 flash bracket out altogether. It is needed so that the SB-800 doesn't spin around.Get both and you'll be happy. 4/5 stars because I can't center the flash, but really, it's only a matter of an inch or an inch and a half, and I don't think it's going to ruin my photographing experiences beyond repair. Happy shooting!Note: I love this thing.

Renowned Nikon Quality, Ridiculous Price
I use the SC-29 extensively for outdoor and indoor portraits. I shoot weddings and have found that using this for the outdoor portraits where I'm working reasonably close to the couple, I can hold the flash in nearly any position with my left hand while operating the D700 in my right hand. This allows me to work quickly and ensure that I get good exposure on the eyes and remove the nasty eye-socket shadows you normally get in outdoor shots in the sun.I've dropped this and carried it around the world several times and it just keeps going. Also love the infra-red focus light it provides on the hotshoe mount. This is obviously a very well thought-out design.Sometimes it is a little difficult to use the flash to the right of the camera because of the way the cable is mounted to the hotshoe connector, but with a little practice you can work around that. The price has come down since I bought it, thankfully. But I'd save up and buy it again if I had to.

There is no substitute
There is no substitute for genuine Nikon products (perhaps barring the Nikon GPS unit). This cord is no exception. I use it with a Nikon D300s and either an SB-900 or SB-700, usually in an event photography setup involving a bracket. The necessity of the cord is really not in dispute with most people. Rather, whether a cheaper third-party substitute would perform equally as well. In nearly every experience in which I did choose a cheaper alternative to Nikon, I was usually dissapointed in either quality or durability.Durability is simply incredible as is features and compatibility. It provides a little over arms reach for obtaining unique lighting angles and very quickly attaches to any shoe on a bracket. If you plan on going further than arms reach, you will enter the world of wireless anyway, either through the CLS or Pocket Wizards. There is no PC connection however. Also, a switch on the front of the unit gives you a choice of AF illum in the flash or hot shoe. This is a must have item for photogs going off camera with lighting.

Little pricey, but a Must Have
What can I say, its a little expensive, but you need one of these. NOW! Get your flash OFF of your camera and start playing around with different lighting angles. You won't regret it I promise. Some people complained that the tension on the chord is too stiff and its hard to pull out too far, but its really not a big deal. Remember the day when we had chords on our phones? Yeah...same thing. As long as you are hand holding the flash, its pretty darn easy to stretch it as far as your arm will reach. The only hinderance is if you are mounting it to another tripod and really trying to put some distance between the camera and the flash. But at that point you should just be going wireless anyway. So unless you have $$$$$$ to shell out for the SB-800 or want to spend a couple hundred dollars more to go wireless with the SB-600 get this cable.

Works great
Is as good as i expected. Solid build quality, it works fine. There were a few things i did not know about this before i bought it, maybe other people could use this info as well1)Gives you about arms reach distance between camera and flash, can probably be uncoiled with heat, but dont expect to put it more than 3 feet before it starts pulling on the stands. Perfect if you want to just hold it in your hand and get different light effects.2) Has a switch on the front that either allows the AF illuminator in the flash or the termial on the hot shoe of the camera. One or the other. Cant use both. I doubt anyone would need both though.3) No PC connection. I read that the SC-28 has one though4) it does have the shoe locks.5) Worth every penny.

I use this TTL cord with my Nikon D3300 and ...
I use this TTL cord with my Nikon D3300 and Nikon SB-700 Speedlight. They work real well together giving me more options for light placement on my subjects. However, I was concerned with the sturdiness of the Speedlight connected to just the TTl cord itself. So I purchased a Fotasy SCX2 1/4-inch 20 Tripod screw-to hotshoe adapter. It connects the mounting foot to the end that connects to the flash. This makes it easier to maneuver the flash without it falling over and take full advantage of having an off camera Dedicated flash.

As normal with Nikon a good product
I already have a short TTL cord as I prefer to use a single flash on an off camera bracket. I wanted this one to give me a few feet (off camera) to mount the flash on a stand. so that I could use it as the commander to trigger other speedlights in CLS mode. It works well but my only slight complaint is that you cannot get the full extension of the cord. The coil is a bit too tight and is likely to pull over the stand if stretched too far. Still it does the job in most circumstances.

It may be the dearest but its also the best
If you're a Nikon shooter looking to get your flash off the camera where it belongs then I'd heartily recommend the SC-29. The main difference between this and the SC-28 is the autofocus sensor on the camera end which replaces the sensor on the flash. This can be turned on or off as required.

Works really well, but the coil works against you ...
Works really well, but the coil works against you if you move too far and pulls all the equipment over because it is so strong. However that does not detract from the fact that this cable does exactly what it's meant too and does it well.

Heavy Duty
This genuine Nikon lead is very good quality; yes expensive but that shows in the build, heavy duty lead with cable grips on both ends. I also needed one with AF assist which this has. Well pleased with purchase.

A must for photographers
The item arrived as promised, on time and well wrapped. The cord does everything I expected from it and has allowed much more creativity with my flash photography.
