Torque monster
This is my first motor upgrade from the tired 1998 Club car DS Series 48v with 3.1 horsepower. Everything arrived quickly from various sources. The motor came from D&D, the controller from Alltrax, the wires from Golf Cart Tire Supply. The heavy duty solenoid is an Allbright. I paid a couple hundred dollars higher by ordering through Amazon because I've had experience with auto "builders" that don't communicate well. And I was right the D&D people didn't respond to email but Amazon seemed to encourage them a bit. The motor is a brute! It makes significantly more torque than I expected. It's a little bigger and heavier than the factory motor so I made a garage ceiling pulley to help lift and hold in place. The controller from Alltrax is their SR48500 model which is customized with my laptop with free software from the Alltrax website. I installed upside down so the OBC wires can plug in. Out of the box the controller/motor setup was unusable for me. Throttle was programmed INSANE from 0% to 99% with a touch of the pedal. The cart leaped and scattered my heavy rubber horse stall mats. BE CAREFUL! This thing could hurt you if you don't re-program before testing the cart. Reverse is even freakier. Tuning the speed and torque is a slow process because I am learning which adjustments do what I want. Alltrax would be helpful to tune for a mid-range user and then let me go up or down with speed and torque. Support from Alltrax didn't respond to a phone message but was same day on my email request. I needed to change the ground wire for everything to work and they gave me good guidance. Tip: Download and install the software before you take the cart off the jack stands so that you can see faults when you speak to Alltrax. The 4 gauge cables from Golf Cart Tire Supply are exact, no problem at all. Start to finish was one week counting a few days waiting for answers. A pro could do this in a day. Top speed is 20 mph with unlifted, 18 inch offroad tires, 4 year old Trojan 875 batteries at 50 volts. Torque is unlimited and more than a match for my hilly streets. 4 stars because it works but they made me beg for help.
