Great stuff
I haven't used this color yet but the first batch I made was amazing. I like the look and feel more than polyurethane. You have to move quicker because of how fast the alcohol evaporates but I think it's worth it.

What more could I say?
They're shellac flakes all right, of a dark purplish hue. Seem to be consistent in color and texture. Cannot say if they are dewaxed -- time will tell. I use an old coffee grinder to create a powder, then mix a "2 pound cut" with alcohol to make a sealer coat on wood projects.A couple light coats slightly darkens the wood, adds a touch of 'richness', for lack of a better term. Very useful in patterned plywood projects - makes the edge grain 'pop' with added contrast. Also nice effect on dark wood species like walnut. You may want to try a sample before commiting to lighter woods like maple.

Quality Shellac Flakes
Quality shellac flakes, crumbled and dissolved quickly and completely. Nice orangey color that I wanted. Good coverage and dried quickly.

A Most Economical Flake Shellac
Best price for shellac I found. (fFWIW, lake shellac has no shelf life unlike ready-to-use shellacs!) I bought it as 'purple' shellac though I've never seen such a type before. It came out more like an amber or perhaps as a not highly refined blond one. Seemed to have a bit of stuff that certainly needed to be filtered out after I mixed it. All in all nothing worth getting upset about - works, applies, and feels like any I've used previously and I would buy again.
